This is an RC Christian shrine located in a remote corner of Ooty. It's location is beyond Kandal, a suburb of Ooty, which is a bit squalid and the streets narrow. One may avoid going through it altogether and approach from the Ooty lakeside from the way to Thhetukkal / Ooty lake spillway. The shrine has been renovated in recent times and is kept open at all times of the week. One can go in and pray. The regular religious icons are present. Towards the right of the shrine the older church is there housing the replica of the Cross purportedly found in the last century. Also Jesus in the sepulchre and other icons pertaining to the passion are.preserved. A passage connecting to the outside has a large number of plaques of stone on the walls listing parishioners who have passed on in yesteryears. The church compound entrance towards one side has the stations of the Cross culminating in a huge crucifix at an elevated position where too devotees can go and pray. Also Mother Mary's icones in separate pedestals outside the church is a good collection to see, pray and make votive offerings. A long way of cross in lent days usually held on Sunday before the easter is very famous. It is alike the way of cross of manapad @ tuticorin ( Tamilnadu).
The walk is around 6 km . It starts from Sacret heart church Ooty to kurusadi with parish people.
It is really divine to see the real crosses.
All vehicles go to the shrine any days except the festival seasons....

Read moreIt's an old church and has some tales of healing and miracles. In the days of the past my grandmother used to visit this church every year during it's annual feast and trekked from the Ooty station to the church and back. Even today the church is not very access able by road and Google maps does a fair job in showing you the direction. It's a small and quiet place and a lot has changed over the years with several modifications done to the original structure. It's not listed as one of the play to visit in Ooty but certainly has some ancient history to it and I only got to know of this place because of the devotion...
