Nilavoor Cliff View Point – A Hidden Gem with a Tricky Trail

Nilavoor Cliff View Point in Yelagiri is one of the more scenic spots in the region, offering a stunning panoramic view of the surrounding valleys—but getting there is half the adventure.

To reach the cliff, you’ll need to travel up a steep, narrow mud road. This path is not suitable for inexperienced drivers, especially during or after rains when it gets slippery. If you're unsure about driving up, it’s safest to park your vehicle near the Nilavoor temple, where the road is still flat, and walk the rest of the way.

From the unofficial cliff parking area, it's a rough 500-meter uphill walk to reach the main viewpoint. The trail is made of uneven, sharp stones, so watch your step closely — it’s easy to slip or twist an ankle if you're not careful. Good footwear is a must, and it’s best avoided by elderly visitors or those with mobility issues.

Entry to the viewpoint costs ₹20 per person, and UPI payments are accepted, which is a convenient touch. The first main viewpoint is absolutely worth the climb — it offers a breathtaking, wide-angle view of the green landscape, rolling hills, and distant villages. It’s the kind of place where you’d want to pause, take a deep breath, and just soak in the silence and scenery.

There are two other minor viewpoints ahead, but they aren’t as impressive. Most visitors agree the first one is the best and makes the effort worthwhile.

Tips:

Avoid visiting during peak sun hours; early morning or late afternoon is ideal.

Carry water and wear sports shoes or trekking sandals.

Watch your step — the rocky trail is uneven and not maintained.

Don’t rely on shops or rest areas — it’s a raw, natural trail.

Verdict: Nilavoor Cliff View Point is a rewarding experience for those willing to trek a little and handle a bit of rugged terrain. The first view is stunning and photo-worthy, but getting there safely requires caution and a bit of stamina. Not recommended for the elderly or during bad weather, but a must-see for nature lovers and casual trekkers looking for...

If you’re coming to Yelagiri - this is a must visit spot. You can go halfway up hill to the view point by car/other means of transport but you have to climb uphill the rest of the way. The path is clean and maintained well. You get to be on the summit of the hills and take in all the rich beauty. There are 2 shelters and one boulder with railings where you can take a break and enjoy the view. The path uphill from the point of vehicle parking has a lot of benches if you want to take a break. You have vendors selling fresh fruit and coconut water. You’ll rarely experience such fresh, clean, unadulterated produce like you do here. The locals also sell herbal medicine which you can know on request. The entry fee to the view point is 50/- per person. The Nilavoor lake on the foothills is a tranquil place you can sit down and breathe in clean air. It’s not crowded like the other places but do go here if you want to experience the hills and try the local produce! Especially the tender coconut water and...

Perched at a scenic spot, the viewpoint offers stunning, panoramic views of the surrounding valleys, hills, and lush greenery. The fresh, cool breeze and tranquil ambiance make it an ideal place to unwind and connect with nature.

The hike to the viewpoint is relatively easy, suitable for visitors of all ages. Once at the top, the expansive views are rewarding, especially during sunrise or sunset, when the landscape transforms into a canvas of vibrant colors. Photographers and nature lovers will be especially captivated by the visual splendor.

While the beauty of the location is undeniable, facilities at the viewpoint are quite basic, so it’s a good idea to carry water and some snacks. Overall, Nilavoor Cliff View Point is a must-visit for those exploring Yelagiri, offering a memorable experience with...
