Nilavoor Cliff View Point – A Hidden Gem with a Tricky Trail
Nilavoor Cliff View Point in Yelagiri is one of the more scenic spots in the region, offering a stunning panoramic view of the surrounding valleys—but getting there is half the adventure.
To reach the cliff, you’ll need to travel up a steep, narrow mud road. This path is not suitable for inexperienced drivers, especially during or after rains when it gets slippery. If you're unsure about driving up, it’s safest to park your vehicle near the Nilavoor temple, where the road is still flat, and walk the rest of the way.
From the unofficial cliff parking area, it's a rough 500-meter uphill walk to reach the main viewpoint. The trail is made of uneven, sharp stones, so watch your step closely — it’s easy to slip or twist an ankle if you're not careful. Good footwear is a must, and it’s best avoided by elderly visitors or those with mobility issues.
Entry to the viewpoint costs ₹20 per person, and UPI payments are accepted, which is a convenient touch. The first main viewpoint is absolutely worth the climb — it offers a breathtaking, wide-angle view of the green landscape, rolling hills, and distant villages. It’s the kind of place where you’d want to pause, take a deep breath, and just soak in the silence and scenery.
There are two other minor viewpoints ahead, but they aren’t as impressive. Most visitors agree the first one is the best and makes the effort worthwhile.
Tips:
Avoid visiting during peak sun hours; early morning or late afternoon is ideal.
Carry water and wear sports shoes or trekking sandals.
Watch your step — the rocky trail is uneven and not maintained.
Don’t rely on shops or rest areas — it’s a raw, natural trail.
Verdict: Nilavoor Cliff View Point is a rewarding experience for those willing to trek a little and handle a bit of rugged terrain. The first view is stunning and photo-worthy, but getting there safely requires caution and a bit of stamina. Not recommended for the elderly or during bad weather, but a must-see for nature lovers and casual trekkers looking for...
