ஆங்கிலத்தில் எழுதுவதற்கு மன்னிக்கவும் dt 10 - 01 -25. After having a darshan in Haridwaramangalam, we sort of started driving back to kumbakonam. It was getting dark, and drizzling also, so we kind of drove slowly. Reached Kiliyur in Govindakudi, saw this Mass hotel, we stopped for a cup of tea. As we were drinking the cup of tea, an idea came, since we so close, why not we try to locate this temple again. Kindly note we were trying to visit this temple for many many years, and every time we come we couldn't locate this temple. We came by car, we came by auto, but still neither we could not find, nor could anyone helps us to find where this temple is. We finished our cup of tea, and started to drive very slowly after we crossed the patteeswaram temple, hoping to locate the street leading to this temple. Voila and we found it this temple. Not only did we locate the temple, we were so happy that it was open and we literally overjoyed that the priest was there inside. We parked the car and literally ran inside. The priest was shocked to see us gasping for breath and we told him how we ran and came in since we were trying to locate this temple for many many years. Priest was happy that we finally found the temple, and said "HE has given permission for you to come only now". A madakovil type of temple. Compact one. Lord on the first floor kind of. Temple faces west, Lord Dharmapureeswarar faces west, Ambal Vimalanayaki faces south, no rajagopuram, no kodimaram and it was very dark so we couldnt find if there was a temple pond near by or not. We had a wonderful aarthi darshan of the lord, recited sivapuranam, went around the praharam on the top. Felt so happy, thanked the priest, and told him we will visit again in a more relaxed manner, the next time we come to kumbakonam Saint Thirunavukarasar has sung one pathigam on this lord here, so before we close our small review want to quote 2 songs from that pathigam 5.058 மூக்கி னால்முரன் றோதியக் குண்டிகை தூக்கி னார்குலந் தூரறுத் தேதனக் காக்கி னானணி யாறை வடதளி நோக்கி னார்க்கில்லை யாலரு நோய்களே.  2 குண்ட ரைக்குண மில்லரைக் கூறையில் மிண்ட ரைத்துரந் தவிம லன்றனை அண்ட ரைப்பழை யாறை வடதளிக் கண்ட ரைத்தொழு துய்ந்தன கைகளே.  3

The temple is believed to be built during the Chola period and has several inscriptions dating back to the 8-9th century. The presiding deity, Someswarar is revered in the 7th century Tamil Saiva canonical work, the Tevaram, written by Tamil saint poets known as the nayanars and classified as Paadal Petra Sthalam. The temple has six daily rituals at various times from 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., and three yearly festivals on its calendar. The annual Brahmotsavam (prime festival) is attended by thousands of devotees from far and near. The city of Pazhayarai was one of the capital towns of the Chola empire.[3][4][5] The temple is a part of the series of temples built by Aditya Chola (871-907 CE) along the banks of river Cauvery to commemorate his victory in the Tirupurambiyam battle. The temple is revered by the verses of the 7-8th-century saint poets Appar, Sambandar and Sundararin Tevaram and classified as Paadal Petra Sthalam.[6] This temple is in the centre of the once famous Pazhayarai city, surrounded by Pazhayari Vadathali in the north, Araimetrali in the west and Thenthali in the south. This is the birthplace of Mangayarkarasiyar, a saint amongst the 63 nayanmars. The temple has a gopuram (gateway tower) in dilapidated state. The gopuram is believed to have been constructed during the later part of 12th-13th century by Later Cholas.[7] The second precinct has a two-tiered gopuram. The sanctum and the walls around the sanctum are built in granite and the structure houses the shrine of Someswarar in the form of lingam (aniconic form of Shiva). There is a shrine for his consort Someswari and the navagrahas. The scene of Ravana lifting Mount Kailash is carved in this temple. There is a sculpture of Narasimha, an avatar of Vishnu, believed to be made during the Cholaperiod. The first of the two shows the fight between the eight-handed Narasimha and Hiranyakashipu. The other panel depicts the earlier scene where Prahlada prays and Narasimha emerges from a pillar. The other panel shows Narsimha tearing the insides of the demon thrown in his legs.[8] The image of Ardhanareeswarar is considered a sculptural masterpiece.[9]
