Chandrabani Temple — Attraction in Uttarakhand

The Chandrabadni Devi Temple is a Hindu shrine, located in a tiny hamlet called Jamnikhal Chandrabadni Temple is a one of the Shakti Peeths and holy shrine of Goddess Sati. A place of faith and devotion, Chandrabadni Temple lies at an height of 2277 mtrs on Chandrabadni mountain which was also known as Chandrakoot mountain in history. Devotees from far away place comes here for worshipping Goddess Sati and take blessings.

Chandrabadni Temple is located on the place where torso of Goddess Sati fell while Lord Shiva was taking away her burned body. Her weapons were also scattered over the place. There is no idol of Goddess Sati present in the main shrine and a Shree Yantra carved on a flat stone is being worshipped in the main shrine. In the month of April every year, a fair is organize in Chandrabadni Temple and attended by devotees in large numbers. Chandrabadni Temple is now decorated with white tiles and marble floor. There are some shops selling Prasad and offerings like flowers, Shreefal or fruits. Small restaurants are also situated having limited eatables and refreshments

This temple is said to be the place where Rishi Gautam used to live with his wife Ahilya Devi. Although the area is dry there is a small spring which is said to be the incarnation of the divine river Ganga which manifested itself because it was pleased with the prayers of Gautam Rishi. There is another shallow pond adjacent to this pond where water overflows from the main pond. People and children often splash around playfully in this shallow pond.

This temple houses the idols of various Gods under one roof. However there are separate temples of Baba Balak Nath the famous child God who has assumed the form of a little boy. Then there is the temple of Gorakh Nath the saint with many mystical powers.

A Havan Kund is between the two temples where specific prayers are performed for advanced spiritual practices. A very big tin shed allows devotees to perform their prayers even in rain or in strong sunlight.

Devotees come here every Sunday morning between ten Am to 12 Pm and offer their prayers. There are offerings of Prasad with sweet milk and water mixed together.
