Prakriti Bhavan (sometimes spelled Prakriti Bhawan) is a unique nature art museum located in the Ballavpur area near Santiniketan, in Birbhum district, West Bengal, India. Situated about 3-4 km from the heart of Santiniketan and close to the Ballavpur Wildlife Sanctuary, it’s an easy stop for those exploring the region’s cultural and natural attractions. The museum features an impressive collection of natural sculptures crafted from driftwood, dry wood, and metal, displayed across four small indoor galleries (non-air-conditioned) where visitors must remove their shoes. Outside, a sprawling open-air garden showcases striking rock sculptures set against Santiniketan’s picturesque red-soil landscape. Highlights include intricate woodworks resembling animals or abstract forms and bronze transcreations that blend natural and artistic elements. An adjacent pond with lilies adds charm, though it’s not part of the museum and could use better upkeep. Entry Fee: Rs. 30 per person; children up to 6 years enter free. Photography Fee: Rs. 20 additional. Timings: Open daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, 365 days a year. Best Time to Visit: Winter (November to March) for pleasant weather; your November 2024 visit aligns with this ideal season. Getting There: A short toto (e-rickshaw) ride from Bolpur station (5-6 km) or Santiniketan’s Visva-Bharati campus. Free parking is available outside.

Prakriti Bhavan, Bolpur Prakriti Bhavan sees its place in the Ballavpur area of Santiniketan, Birbhum, West Bengal. The place holds the immense prestige of being the world’s unique Nature Art Museum. The museum holds an impressive indoor display of natural sculptures in dry wood, driftwood, and transcreation in metal. The uniqueness of the museum is in its sprawling open-air garden of natural rock sculptures. The museum again is one of the priceless gifts of Rabindranath Tagore to the people. He believed in taking inspiration from nature and learning from nature in the natural environment. This museum is created and artefacts displayed as per the ideology of Kabiguru towards the harmonious existence of human and mother nature. This museum is a perfect example of natural learning. The beauty of this place is unmatched. The priceless creation of nature is meticulously collected and displayed. One should take at least two hours to visit all the items displayed there. Tickets- Rs.20.00 per person. ****

Prakriti Bhavan is a museum of nature arts in Ballavpur area, very close to Sonajhuri Haat in Shantiniketan. This museum is founded by Subrata Basu. They have an open outdoor garden space filled with rock sculptures and indoor displays of nature artifacts made of dry wood, rock, stone and metal. They are open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm everyday. They also have a museum canteen to relish matka chai and local snacks. The most awestrucking moment would be to know that none of the sculptures and artifacts have had a human touch. It is the nature's creative erosion and natural occurrences that shaped these structures and have been secured and displayed here by the artists at the museum. The description of art by Subrata Basu, as seen and experienced by him, is worth taking time reading though and contemplating. It is bound to expand your mind.
