Saheb Bandh Purulia Saheb Bandh in Purulia was built around 1843 by the British Collector, Colonel Trickle, as a reservoir to supply water to the town. Also known as Rishi Nibaran Sayer. The lake continues to be a crucial water source for Purulia town. Tourist Attraction: The area is also a tourist destination, offering activities like boating. This is the biggest Sarovar in Purulia District. The Govt. has declared it as national Sarovar. The lively hood of purulians depend upon it . Adjacent to the lake you will find Subhash Park and District Science Centre. ****

One of the star attractions in Purulia town Beautiful lake with a lot of Shaluk flower. Why it was called Saheb Bandh. According to local legend/history this was commissioned British Collector Colonel Trickle in the year 1843. Was it built by jailed Indians? I am not sure if they can be called freedom fighters... for the Sepoy Mutiny was in 1857. Migratory birds come here during winter. I hear that funds have been granted to restore the lake which supplies water to the Purulia town. I saw the weeds pulled out from the pond and sent away by small trucks in Oct 2018

Best place in the town to spend some time with friends. Whether it is a early morning or it is a evening the mesmerising view of sun will fill your heart. But lack of maintenance some side of it fill with water hyacinth(কচুরিপানা) and the other part connect with dirty water probably with the local drains. ● But anyone can say that it's the heart of the town and also there are park, museum as well as restrurants surrounding it.

A huge lake spread over an area of 50 acres, this is an important place of tourist interest in Purulia. The glittering lake is a magnet for migratory birds. During the winter season, birds fly from as far as Baluchistan and Siberia to this beautiful place. Thus, for the avid bird watcher, Saheb Bandh is the perfect retreat. This stunning lake was built in the 19th century and has now been declared a national lake. And to enhance the experience of your visit, Shikara rides have also been started at the lake. Just like in Kashmir, here too you can rent dresses and pose while you ride...
