Chicken Thali Review - Aami Bangali, Purulia
Presentation The Chicken Thali at Aami Bangali is beautifully arranged on a traditional metal thali, giving it a homely, authentic look. The different dishes are neatly portioned, and the vibrant colors of each item make it visually appealing.
Food & Taste The Chicken Thali offers a delightful variety of Bengali flavors. Here's a breakdown of the components:
Chicken Curry: The star of the thali, the chicken curry, is rich and aromatic. The chicken is tender and infused with a blend of spices typical of Bengali cuisine, such as mustard seeds and green chilies. The gravy has a slightly thick texture, perfect for pairing with rice.
Steamed Rice: Fluffy and perfectly cooked, the rice serves as an ideal base to soak up the flavors of the chicken curry and other accompaniments.
Dal (Lentils): The dal is lightly spiced with a comforting, homestyle flavor that adds a mild contrast to the spicy chicken curry.
Vegetable Fry: Usually, a seasonal vegetable fry (like brinjal or potato) is included, which adds a crispy texture to the meal.
Aloo Bhaja (Potato Fries): Crispy, thinly sliced potato fries bring an extra crunch to the thali. Lightly spiced and fried to a golden color, they’re a simple yet delicious side.
Chutney: A sweet and tangy chutney (often made with mango or tomato) offers a refreshing contrast to the spiciness of the other items.
Papad & Salad: The crunchy papad and fresh salad of cucumber and onions add freshness and balance to the meal.
Portion Size The portion size is generous, ideal for a hearty meal that doesn’t leave you wanting more. It’s enough for one person, but can easily be shared if you’re pairing it with another item.
Value for Money For the variety and quality, the Chicken Thali is reasonably priced and offers good value, especially for diners looking to experience a range of Bengali flavors in one meal.
Overall The Chicken Thali at Aami Bangali is a well-rounded, flavorful experience, offering a taste of authentic Bengali cuisine in a single plate. Perfect for lunch or dinner, it’s highly recommended for anyone looking to enjoy a classic, satisfying Bengali...

After there successful ventures in Kolkata Aami Bangali has opened their latest outlet at Purulia, near axis bank on Ranchi road. Purulia has been very popular place for all Bengalis post lockdown. Being located at about 350 kms from Kolkata, Purulia is easily accessible to everyone and is indeed a beautiful place to visit. But when you visit Purulia make sure you try out dishes from Aami bangali.
Being a Bengali , Bengali cuisine is always close to my heart , this is something which i eat everyday hence replicating a traditional Bengali dish and getting praised isn't an easy job .As we all are so much knowledgeable about our own food and almost all the foodies like me know the small details about this cuisine which can take a simple dish from mediocre to extraordinary . Yet this place should get much of appreciation as they are doing a great job with the cooking and respecting our emotions .
The interior of the place is just amazing , chairs and tables are all made of bamboo. Not the biggest place but still can accomodate about 25-30 people at a time. Staffs are very polite and helpful .
Coming to the grand meal we had . Bengali cuisine is mostly known for jaw-dropping fish preparations , rich spicy curries and different types of fried items .
You can start off with the famous e fish fingers which are finger shaped fish fillets made from bhetki fish and served with kasundi, a traditional sauce made with mustard that has a pungent smell. You can also opt for luchi cholar dal.
For the mains you may go for steamed rice with mutton kasa , lebu Lanka murgi and dhokar dalna. Being a fan of both mutton and dhoka , which is a type of traditional lentil cake made with chana dal , I enjoyed both the dishes with my rice , just a perfect meal for me. The mutton portions were good , the gravy being rich and spicy , the way we Bengalis love to have. On the other hand lebu Lanka murgi is a prep made with boneless chicken marinated with lots of lemon and cooked with some addition of chillies . It had completely different flavours ,but is was nothing compared to the mutton kasa. The dhokar dalna had its own way of amusing me with its humble gravy and on point flavours.
Plenty of fish preparations will also impress you, be it chingrir malaicurry a classic prawn dish with coconut milk, pabda mach prepared with bori and begun or even then sorshe ilish. Flavours will make your tastebuds dance in joy.
In a nutshell, they are going to reign the restaurant industry in Purulia for a...

Veg Manu variety: 🥗🥗🥗 All the veg items we ordered viz. Aluposto, mochar ghonto, dhokar dalna etc were very delicious.
Non-veg menu variety:🍗🥩🍲 Among the non-veg items, Kochupata chingri, Golda chingrir malaikari, Mutton er jhol were excellent however, some of the fish items like Sorse Ilish, Vetki bhapa were not at all good. Though the preparation of the fish items were nice, I believe these were stored since long back and thus lost their actual taste. Even I was in doubt whether the Vetki bhapa was eatable or not.
However, as a whole, all the veg items were excellent, not too much spicy and except fish items, other non veg items were really good and really mouth watering. Katchupata chingri and Chingrir malaikari was too good 😋
Thali system:🍛🍛🍛 Thali system is also available there at comparatively reasonable price. Veg thali, egg thali, chicken thali, Katla thali & Mutton thali are served there. However, in thalis, items are provided in fixed quantities (not unlimited). If you need extra, you have to pay extra.
Beverages: 🍸🍹 I had tried some beverages there, among them 'Gandharaj Ghol' was awesome & refreshing. Everyone must try this here specially in Summer.
Price:🧾 The price of all the items are reasonable and affordable. We were 5 persons and ate major veg and non veg items together and the final bill was around 1700 which is at par the market. Chicken thali costs Rs 180, Mutton thali costs Rs 290, Katla thali costs Rs 190, veg thali costs Rs 150.
Final tip: 🎯 Ask the waiter before selecting the menu and take their suggestions because all the items there are not fresh...
