Ramanujam Museum is located with the Trust Building of AVVAI ACADEMY. One can have a look inside the Ramanujam Museum. Here you can get some insight about the man and his obsession wih mathematics.

A genius in his own right. He is infact famous for solving a few mathematical problems which surprised some english mathematicians and scholars. A few of the englishmen at that time grew fond of his research and others supported him as well. Like these days... in his own time he saw many people who discouraged his research and findings and so did not let him progress. He was regarded a scholar and compulsive learner of mathematics.

Many south indians are regarded as good in mathematics and learn through app or have different methods these days. But here is a man who did not have all the comforts we enjoy today. Despite the disadvantages and ill health and other situations which were discouraging, Ramanujam proved that he had something worthwhile to prove AND that he was indeed a star and a genius in mathematics.

ചെന്നൈയിലെ രാമാനുജൻ മ്യൂസിയം ഇന്ന് സന്ദർശിക്കാൻ സാധിച്ചു...

പത്തു വയസ്സ് പ്രായം ഉള്ളപ്പോൾ ആണ് ഞാൻ അദ്ദേഹത്തിൻ്റെ ജീവ ചരിത്രം വായിച്ചത്... അന്ന് മുതൽ മനസ്സിലൊരു ആരാധ്യ പുരുഷനായി പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട് ഞാനീ പ്രതിഭയെ.

രാമാനുജൻ്റെ പേരിൽ ഒരു മ്യൂസിയം ചെന്നൈയിൽ ഉള്ളതായി ആരും പറഞ്ഞു കേട്ടിട്ടില്ല... ഇന്നലെ യാദൃശ്ചിമായി ആരുടെയോ എഴുത്തിൽ വായിച്ച് അറിഞ്ഞു... ഇന്ന് രാവിലെ തന്നെ അങ്ങോട്ട് പുറപ്പെട്ടു...

ആരായിരുന്നു രാമാനുജൻ???

ആധുനികഭാരതത്തിലെ ഏറ്റവും പ്രതിഭാശാലിയായ ഗണിതശാസ്ത്രജ്ഞനായി വിലയിരുത്തപ്പെടുന്ന ആളാണ് ശ്രീനിവാസ രാമാനുജൻ.

തമിഴ്‌നാട്ടിൽ ഈറോഡിലെ ദരിദ്ര കുടുംബത്തിൽ 1887 ഡിസംബർ 22-ന്‌ ശ്രീനിവാസ രാമാനുജൻ ജനിച്ചു. അച്ഛൻ കുപ്പുസ്വാമി ശ്രീനിവാസ അയ്യങ്കാർ തുണിക്കടയിൽ കണക്കെഴുത്തുകാരനായിരുന്നു. അമ്മ കോമളത്തമ്മാൾ.

ശുദ്ധഗണിതത്തിൽ കാര്യമായ വിദഗ്‌ധ ശിക്ഷണം ലഭിക്കാതിരുന്നിട്ടും സ്വപ്രയത്നത്തിലൂടെ ഗണിത വിശകലനം, സംഖ്യാസിദ്ധാന്തം, അനന്തശ്രേണി, തുടർച്ചാഭിന്നകങ്ങൾ തുടങ്ങിയ ഗണിതശാസ്ത്ര മേഖലകളിൽ വിലപ്പെട്ട സംഭാവനകൾ നൽകി അദ്ദേഹം. രാമാനുജന്റെ ഗുരുവായിരുന്ന ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് ഗണിതജ്ഞൻ ജി.എച്ച്. ഹാർഡിയുടെ അഭിപ്രായത്തിൽ ഗോസ്, ഓയിലർ, കോച്ചി, ന്യൂട്ടൺ, ആർക്കിമിഡീസ് തുടങ്ങിയ വിശ്രുതഗണിതജ്ഞരുടെ നിരയിലുൾപ്പെടുത്താവുന്ന പ്രതിഭയായിരുന്നു അദ്ദേഹം...

1918 ഫെബ്രുവരി 18-ന്‌ റോയൽ സൊസൈറ്റി ഫെലോഷിപ്പ്‌ ലഭിച്ചു. ആ ബഹുമതിക്ക്‌ അർഹനാകുന്ന രണ്ടാമത്തെ ഇന്ത്യക്കാരനായിരുന്നു രാമാനുജൻ. ആ ഒക്‌ടോബറിൽ തന്നെ കേംബ്രിഡ്‌ജിലെ ട്രിനിറ്റി കോളേജ്‌ ഫെലോ അയി അദ്ദേഹം തിരഞ്ഞെടുക്കപ്പെട്ടു. ആദ്യമായി ഒരു ഇന്ത്യക്കാരൻ ആ സ്ഥാനത്ത്‌ എത്തുകയായിരുന്നു !!!

1920 ഏപ്രിൽ 26ന് തൻ്റെ 33 വയസ്സ് പ്രായത്തിൽ ക്ഷയരോഗ ബാധിതനായി അദ്ദേഹം ചെന്നൈയിൽ വച്ച് അന്തരിച്ചു...

രാമാനുജന്റെ നോട്ടുബുക്കിലെ 3254 കുറിപ്പുകൾ വികസിപ്പിച്ച ബ്രൂസ്‌ സി.ബെർട്‌, ഇരുപതാം നൂറ്റാണ്ടിന്റെ ഉത്തരാർധത്തിൽ അവ 12 വാല്യങ്ങളായാണ്‌ പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ചത്‌. ആധുനിക ഗണിത ശാസ്ത്രത്തിൽ ഏറ്റവും വില മതിക്കുന്ന അമൂല്യ ഗ്രന്ഥങ്ങളായി അവ ഇന്നും വിലയിരുത്തപ്പെടുന്നു...

ഗണിതത്തിലെ പഠനങ്ങളെ ഭൗതികശാസ്ത്രവുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട രീതിയിൽ ഗവേഷണങ്ങൾ നടത്താൻ രാമാനുജൻ ഒരിക്കലും ശ്രമിച്ചില്ല... അതുകൊണ്ട് മാത്രം ആണ് നോബൽ സമ്മാനം അദ്ദേഹത്തെ തേടി വരാതെ ഇരുന്നതും... (ഗണിത വിഷയത്തിൽ മാത്രം ഗവേഷണം ചെയ്തവരെ ആ വലിയ അംഗീകാരത്തിന് ഇന്നും പരിഗണിക്കാറില്ല)

(രാവിലെ 12 മണി വരെ ഞാൻ മാത്രം ആയിരുന്നു ആ മ്യൂസിയത്തിലെ അതിഥി... അത് കഴിഞ്ഞ് രണ്ട് വിദേശികൾ വന്നു..അവിടുത്തെ സന്ദർശക രജിസ്റ്ററിൽ ഒന്ന് കണ്ണോടിച്ചപ്പോൾ ഞാൻ ലജ്ജിതനായി എന്ന് പറയുന്നതാവും ശരി. 70% സന്ദർശകരും വിദേശികൾ... നമ്മുടെ നാട്ടുകാരിൽ അവിടം വന്നവരിൽ അധികവും ഗണിതത്തിൽ ഗവേഷണം...

Ramanujam Museum is a unique place to visit. It has a good collection of original works and letters of Ramanujam. It is so amazing to see his works - continuous stream of equations. When you see his works, you can appreciate what Ramanujam himself said about his own works " An equation for me has no meaning, unless it expresses a thought of God"; it is highly impossible to write continuously such stream of equations with absolutely no correction in the page.
