SCAMMER ALERT ‼️ The place is amazing but only if you make it to there.
Already 20 mins before the village a guy shouted at us to come back and register. They have prepared very nice pictures, albums, registration forms. And they also asked us to pay 400k per person to visit only the water slide. It was very suspicious to me as this is a NATURAL water slide. All other NATURAL things (waterfalls) in Bali cost some symbolical price. I quickly googled and realised that it goes for scammers. So we just said we gonna continue and won’t pay.
They tried to whistle and stop us a couple of more times on the way. We just ignored.
When we finally arrived at the spot where you are supposed to go a bit off the main road, new scammers appeared… the most brutal ones. We tried to ignore them and just drive past them but it was impossible! They wanted to fight us. I got mad and drove away.
We then asked a girl a little bit further how we can get there and that people are asking us to pay. She was very nice and took her motorbike to show us the way. This time we passed next to the brutal scammers but nobody complained that we are entering the area without paying the local guide. I was so thankful to this girl, and was already planning to give some money to her as gratitude. But she was actually part of another SCAMMER GANG. They tried to sell us a local guide for 100k. We explained we don’t need a local guide and wanted to pay only the 20k at the entrance. Somehow this gang was not brutal as the previous one and let us go.
We tried to reach the waterslide in complete fear. Walking towards it (100m before the slide) another scooter approached us trying to SCAM us for the last time. But we got rid of him quickly.
The road to the slide is very narrow, not possible to reach completely until the end by scooter. Anyhow, very nice if you can make it to there… At the entrance you will pay only the 20k/person which is a very acceptable price. You will have so much fun. I couldn’t be so relaxed as we left the scooters parked a bit further and didn’t know in what status the tires will be at the end or if we will even find the scooters at all. Luckily everything went without...
Read moreWe had the chance to go to the water slide with the local Lemukih community leader. So I could hear the whole story about harassing guides.
But first, Lemukih is a quite and naturally wonderful place. We stayed here for three days. The short walk to the waterslide through rice fields was really wonderful, my children loved the slide. We learned a lot about Lemukih and the nature from our guide. The small warung is good, I can recommend the Nasi Goreng or just a coffee while watching the kids sliding. If you have more time, go the complete round tour. Its worth it.
Now coming to the guides. Our guide and one of the community leader of Lemukih, is trying to build up with other Lemukih people a sustainable tourism in Lemukih. The 20k entry fee for slide is only the fee, which goes to the Balinese Government. Nothing remains for locals.
That is why they (Lemukih community) established the guide concept and want that the visit of the slide and the water jump should be only with the guide.
Important, the money you pay to the guide is shared to rice farmer, on which fields your are walking, to the guides and big portion goes directly to Lemukih community for direct investments in the village. So everybody participates.
Please also consider…If you go through the rice fields to the slide, you are walking on the property of the rice field farmers. Think about your garden at home…and how you would feel.
Price for guides: If you go with the whole family the price is really high. So everyone should decide, if it’s worth it. If you feel it is too expensive, I would recommend to respect the rules and then just not go there. Maybe it will bring some pressure to reduce the high price.
If you say it is worth it, maybe supporting also the idea of sustainable community tourism, I can only...
Read moreSuch a shame that this spot is overrun with scammers. This morning I enjoyed visiting 4 waterfalls in Munduk and then made my way to this spot to visit the water slide. On my journey I was stopped on the road first by a man claiming I needed to register with the military and pay for a guide. I ignored and continued on. I was then shouted at by 2 other groups wanting to sell me a guide for the attraction. Once I arrived at the location it was the same thing, I was told I needed a guide and could choose from a selection of packages ranging from 150k - 300k. Very steep to see a natural attraction! Also bare in mind, I only spent 45k total to see 4 different waterfalls in Munduk - all paid to separate land owners (which all seemed fair to me).
We ignored the scammers and attempted to ride down ourselves to the attraction but were stopped by a man. Again he claimed the military required guides to see the attractions, but he said if we stayed in a local homestay we could go, that we needed to support the local community. Having already paid to stay in a Munduk homestay this was obviously not going to happen.
Apparently if you do manage to get down the road and past the scammers, the real owner only charges 20k (this would be inline with the price if all the other waterfalls we visited). I’m not sure if the real owner is in on the scam or not. Whoever owns this page clearly is involved from their previous review responses.
It’s sad really, they obviously need more tourists in the area and are ruining their reputation by charging ridiculous prices and attempting to...
