If you came here, transportation is a important consideration. I came from Turen and recommend not to drive a motorbike because the plateau around Bromo is so vast with thick sands everywhere that you bike will spin/slide and your rear passenger will be often required to get off and even push your motorbike forwards. There are several rest area(eg. Ponco Pusumo)on the road to Bromo where to change your way of transportation and hire a jeep. Read moreIf crater rim is open for a visit, go there! Direct access without guide possible directly from Cemoro Lawang. We have tried to climb around the crater rim clockwise. Warning!! Really warning!! We are experienced climber from the alps. The first 30 minutes to the first crater peak is no problem. The way to the second crater peak - the highest point - is more difficult but also no problem in my opinion. From the highest point back to the starting point it gets dangerous. You endanger your life! No grip for the shoes, no hold for your hands. Don't even try it. Enjoy Bromo from the highest point and walk back to the stairs the...
Read moreOMG! Mount Bromo Crater is a must-see if you want to safely experience an active volcano. It's a two km walk from the car park. Be prepared for some steepish sections plus a 250 step staircase to the crater's edge. Locals have horses you can pay to ride up to and return from the staircase. Makes the staircase ascent a little easier. You can hear the volcano from about ten steps from the top. What a sight to behold! Whiffs of sulphur were present during my visit. Recent rain kept the black dust down. Perhaps consider an organized tour with Bromo sunrise so you can a local driver in a Toyota 4x4 getbyou there and...
