You can called it , the city centre of Karimunjawa. Located after the seaport and most populous area of the Island and where located another governmental body. Term Alun-alun actually common place of most Javanese city, alun-alun means open space sized a football pitch or double in the middle of the city. Here, you can find mostly handcraft and culinary items. Western area of the alun-alun you will find handcraft such as Javanese types elderly stick made from dewadaru wood which is native wood of Karimunjawa, also you can find commando stick, tasbeed bean, jewelry made from turtle shell and also some snack and crackers made local product. on the eastern area mostly the Street food vendor located. They are selling various types of sea food such as grill lobster 🦞, types of fishes, crabs and many more. You just choose it, the will clean on the spot and cook it as you wish, grill, fried or stew. yes... karimunjawa is one of the best seafood destinations but my suggestion for government of Karimunjawa specially regarding the street food vendor. The local government shall regulate them and provide a minimum facility to meet the food safety standards. At least on each vendor they provide hand washing basin for the visitor, and for vendor, the food preparation they shall provide sink to ensure cleaning process and off course the cold storage to maintain freshness of the seafood product. karimunjawa is unique, you can get easily fresh sea food not like in java island where fresh seafood is considered luxury items. Here cheaper seafood with good hygiene standards can be the added value of Karimunjawa tourism beside the beautiful beaches. I'm sure Karimunjawa can be world class destination but all stakeholders such department of tourism and Dinkes need to working hard to achieve that. For sure, will come back...
Read moreIt is good place to hangout when you are in Karimun Jawa. This place will be so busy during weekend especially on Saturday's Night. It can take almost or more than an hour to get your food ready if you come on Saturday's night. However if you come on Friday's night it will less busy and the vendor will les available too. The fishes are still fresh. They took it when the day they sell it. There are many options what you like fish to be cooked, grill, fried and soupy. For grill and fried you can't ask them for spicy taste, because sambal (traditional chili sauce) will coming along with it. I think you can ask the level of spicyness in soup (I never try it). The place; you will sitting in the ground while you wait for ur food and eat it - they provide long table for your food, it called "Lesehan". The best way to eat is using your hands rather than spoon and fork. They provides water and soap so you can wash your hands and sometimes they will provide a water in a bowl to wash your hand, so don't drink it! Water in a bowl sometime they will put a slice of orange's skin - IT ISN'T AN INFUSE WATER!
Safetiness in Karimun Jawa? Don't worry! It's really safety! One times I had ever bring someone bike - local ppl, without know his name! He just said, "Just parking in front of your hostel and I will take it and leave the key in bike." Well, it's so safe and you can put on trust on them. One time I ever talked with the vendor in Alun-Alun about stolen things, and surprisely they said no one dare to stole if they dare to stole a tourist's things they should ready to get the punishments. They here is local people. But still you need...
Read moreLots of food stall here especially grilled seafood! They sell fresh seafood like squid, any kind of fish, crabs, etc. My friend and I try 2 different small grilled fish and we got 2 kind of sambal (lime sambal and shrimp paste sambal if i'm not wrong). The fishes are fresh, but when I taste it, it seems like the seller didn't add any fresh lime or masako or micin at all. So, I just can barely taste only the fish meat. The sambal is quite good. The price for small fish is 20k per 1 fish. The price would be different depend on the weight of the fish. There are also who sells dried seafood here. We also try juices here and their melon juice is good! I don't know why I feel like the melon here has a fragrant after taste. I just feel like it's quite different with melon that I ever tried before. There are a lot of children play in the...
