English-Indonesia It is located in Samosir Island so we should cross the Lake toba first from Parapat by Ferry. After we arrived, we can go to that place around 15 minutes and then passing narrow street to go that area. There are many booths who sell souvenirs around the area. For 1 performance, we need to pay Rp80.000, we can dance together with Sigale-Gale and wearing traditional atribute. It's awesome! There are some traditional houses so we can really feel traditional ambience and culture there. It's really makes me feel different experience. Although the accessibility is not easy enough but it's paid by the performance of Sigale-Gale. It's better for you to jointhe performance in the morning and afternoon. The short history about sigale gale is story about a king was sick because of missing his son. #HeritagePlacesinNorthSumatra

Obviously this is a very touristy spot that's located almost at the end of Tomok market, but for a first time visitor, it is interesting and should consider making it as part of your itinerary to learn about Batak culture & dance. When we went there, we were the only ones and there was no Batak dance happening. If you want, you need to pay Rp100.000, which wasn't so attractive. Luckily there was a big group from a company trip and they participated in the Batak dance. If you don't want to see the Batak dance, you can just take photos around the area.

Located in Tomok, this newly renovated traditional village maybe one of few places in Samosir that held the traditional Sigale-gale dance. To be fair, I didn't watch the show, but the area around the stage is definitely worth exploring. A long line of souvenir shops will make sure you won't go home empty handed. But for those expecting a more rustic and raw Batak village, probably this is a bit artificial since the village has been beautifully renewed.

Batak houses beside the King's Tomb with a wooden life-size puppet statue (the Sigale Gale - a puppet dance traditionally used for funeral ceremonies).

Nothing much was going on while I was there until i saw a group of tourists come and the performers drew up curtains to block the view of anyone who wasn't paying. Well, they basically perform traditional dances of the Sigale Gale (half-heartedly; and i really doubt the authenticity of it), and at some parts, drag along tourists to dance with them. There are also guides for hire (amidst the performers) to share about the Batak culture but I did not bother with any.

You can read up on the Batak culture before coming as there's no information available on site, aside from the...
