Breksi Cliff is a former mining tourist destination located in Groyokan Hamlet, Sambirejo Village, Prambanan District, Sleman Regency, D.I. Yogyakarta. Initially, the Breksi Cliff was a limestone mining area which was a source of livelihood for the people in the vicinity. The limestone in the Breccia Cliffs was originally the ash ejected by the Nglanggeran Volcano during its eruption decades ago. The cubes of ash settle into mud and harden into rock. It was the weather and time that turned the ashes from the eruption into large limestone rocks in Sambirejo Village. In 2014, a combination of researchers from the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) and the National Development University (UPN) conducted a survey of the Breksi Cliffs and they found a rare type of tuffaceous rock. So that mining had to be stopped and in 2015 the Breksi Cliff was designated as one of the Yogyakarta Geoheritage. Since then, the local community has taken the initiative to develop Breksi Cliff with their creativity. This ex-mining cliff about 30 meters high is carved to form reliefs and wayang stories which are decorated with details on the carvings. The beauty of the artistic work produced is then disseminated using social media, so that Breksi Cliff becomes a popular tourist destination among the public. Another beauty that can be found at the Breccia Cliffs is the extraordinary natural scenery. Because this tourist attraction is located at 200 meters above sea level, visitors can see the city of Yogyakarta from a height. Especially when the sun sets, visitors will be treated to a beautiful sunset over the...
Read moreThe access to Breksi was quite hard and dangerous. The road was steep, small, and bumpy. There were many buses, motorcycles, and cars which going to go up there, so you have to prepare yourself for driving behind those vehicle on that dangerous road. Breksi is a super windy place. That makes the dust and sand go everywhere. I recommend you to wear some kind of surgical mask if you have a sensitive nose. During the afternoon, Breksi is a really hot place. It felt like the sun is only a feet above you. You better bring sunblock there. If you want a great experience with less temperature to handle, you can visit that place before 10 am or after 3 pm. This place was crowded and noisy with many visitors when I came there. The main attraction here are the view on top of the cliff and the sculptures in the cliff's wall. You can see the airport from above and watch the planes come and go. You can also see the Merapi Volcano on the other side of the cliff. There were also some photo spots with properties there. But you have to be careful because the cliff was kinda slippery on the top. DO NOT WEAR HEELS! Its better for you to wear sneakers or sandals, something comfortable to climb the stairs. Facilities: food court, prayer place for muslim, many toilets, wide parking lot, open air amphitheater, jeep tour. This place is still under construction so you can find heavy equipment...
Read moreThe history about this place is quiet interesting, before become tourist attraction this place actually a mining site but closed down because actually stone that they mined actually comes from ancient volcano called Mount Nglanggeren. In 2014 the government stop the minning and then in 2015 this place officially become on of the hot tourist attraction in Jogjakarta. With that interesting history sadly most people come here just for selfie. Yes.. SELFIE! There are some unique photo booth on top of a cliff made by management and some local artist and some of them are paid booth. I mean there is nothing wrong with taking a selfie on a tourist spot but if the attraction is selfie it self that's just not for me. Lacks of trees makes this place so hot in the summer and dusty as well. There are not a lot of trash can also in the selfie spot. But if you're tired from taking selfie you can take rest in the food court here and the selection are pretty good. Taste decent but the place are quiet comfy and the decor also pretty unique. It's still a good tourist spot tho don't get me wrong, but my advice is comes here just before sunset because sunset here is very good from the top of the hill and when it's getting darker you can enjoy beautiful lighting around...
