I had a great time visiting the Museum Situs Lubang Tambang Soero in Sawahlunto, Sumatra Barat. The museum is a special museum that consists of the Galeri Kotak Info and the Lubang Tambang Mbah Soero, which are located in the Tanah Lapang village, Lembah Segar. The museum is a former coal stockpile site that was mined from the Lubang Tambang Mbah Soero. The name of the museum comes from a fictional character named Mbah Soero.

The museum showcases the history and culture of the coal mining industry in Sumatra Barat, especially the role of the Lubang Tambang Mbah Soero, which was built by the Dutch colonial government in 1898 to transport coal from the Ombilin mines. The museum displays various items and information related to the coal mining, such as tools, equipment, photos, videos, and stories. One of the highlights of the museum is the Lubang Tambang Mbah Soero itself, which is a tunnel that is 185 meters long and still has the original roof and walls made of coal. Visitors can enter the tunnel and experience how it was like to work in the coal mine.

The museum is well-organized and has helpful staff who are knowledgeable and friendly. The entrance fee is very reasonable and there are also souvenir shops and food stalls nearby. The museum is open from 8 am to 5 pm every day, except on Mondays when it is closed. Museum Situs Lubang Tambang Mbah Soero ini merupakan destinasi wisata sejarah yang sangat menarik di kota Sawahlunto ini. Merupakan museum dari situs Lubang Tambang Batubara di masa penjajahan dahulu. Jika kita hendak memasuki area situs ini yang berupa gua/lorong panjang ini diwajibkan menggunakan safety tools seperti helm dan sepatu boots, karenanya kita harus berhati-hati dan menjaga sikap ketika berada didalamnya. Didalam lubang tambang ini kita hanya bisa melalui beberapa jalur saja yang dianggap aman, hal ini dikarenakan faktor keamanan dan keselamatan. Dimana banyak area yang masih terendam air dan juga oksigen yang masih terbatas di tempat lainnya. Didalam lubang tambang ini kita juga bisa secara langsung melihat dan menyentuh batu bara. Jika kita sudah melalui situs ini, maka akan diberikan piagam penghargaan. Selain situs, museum ini juga menyimpan dan menyajikan kisah yang dikemas dalam visualisasi media pamer seperti foto-foto; narasi; juga artefak benda bersejarahnya swperti pakaian kerja dll. Lokasi berdekatan dengan Museum Goedang Ransoem. Tersedia banyak homestay di sekitar Museum ini jika berkenan untuk tinggal beberapa saat di kota ini karena memang tersedia beberapa destinasi...
