Another place where they ask for absurd ticket fees (3 tiers).
So, for all four waterfalls they ask for 160.000, and tell you, you need a guide for them. But for 125.000 you can go to the two main waterfalls without a guide (That's the best option if you pay). And 75.000 to one.
Just to be clear, you don't really need a guide for any of them. And there are no tickets checks.
Two of them (Sesere and Kerwun) are a bit hidden away from the others, but totally accessible. If you reach the pools after the second waterfall, you can just progress over the wooden bridge there and walk to the left to the river. You just need to go through shallow water a bit and walk through a narrow jungle path then. No big deal.
And if you think about going to all of them, just be told that Sesere and Kerwun, are not that impressive.
I actually, want to encourage you, to go without any ticket at all, as they are stupid enough to not even check your ticket once (or was mine a cheat day).
You just need to go through the main gate and the food court to the main hiking trail (first left after the abandoned tourist Info building). And by the way Indonesians just pay 10.000, if at all.
I also don't get why one needs to go to a separate building at the parking lot to buy the (overpriced) tickets.
They will tell you there the tickets fees are going to the community and the government, which might be correct (to a percentage). But who knows really.
At the bottom line, people get work from it (guides, vendors, taxi drivers etc.). And I support that. But this should be private business and not mandatory. If someone wants a guide, they will for sure get one.
And if the responsible organization reading this: Just offer a concierge service at demand, and reasoable ticket prices, and...
Read moreLembar Lombok was our fifth stop on our 28 day Asia cruise. We hired a private car to take us to Benang Stokel and Benang Kelambu Waterfalls.
At the entrance, we had to hire two motorcycles to get down to the waterfalls. That’s when we met Akhmel. My six year old daughter and I rode on his motorcycle while my husband and our five year old rode with another driver.
I had badly sprained my leg earlier in the cruise and was limping with a cane, but Akhmel drove us carefully and safely to the start of the trail. From there, we had quite a bit of walking down stairs and uneven paths. Akhmel carried both my bags, held my daughter’s hand, and helped her walk down about 175 steps. He also took beautiful photos for us and made the most gorgeous crowns from ferns and leaves for me and my daughters.
The waterfalls were absolutely breathtaking. They looked like something straight out of the movie Avatar — water flowing down in delicate curtains over lush green moss and vines, surrounded by thick jungle and the sounds of birds and rushing water. The whole place felt peaceful and magical.
My daughters had so much fun playing and even swimming in the natural pool. Then it started to rain, so we took shelter in a tiny nearby shop. We bought a cup of instant ramen and I fed my daughters, who kept saying “my turn, my turn” after every bite — definitely a core memory from our trip.
On the way back, Akhmel and the other driver got us safely up the trail. Akhmel even let my daughters pretend to drive, and they absolutely loved him. He made them feel so special.
We tipped both drivers but gave Akhmel extra because he truly was kindness personified. He told us it was the off season and he only got to make this trip once a day sometimes, so we wanted to make sure he was well...
Read moreBE AWARE !!!! - First , the place is AMAZING and beautiful, a must see if in Lombok! 5 waterfalls all together and it takes about 3 hours to visit them all, and extra if u wish to swim. Why low score? So the place is a nature beauty open National Park and it’s FREE , i repeat FREE !!! But there a local claimed ‘ sheriffs ‘ there who put the fake table and reception sign and selling so called tickets for the price of 100k per p. Depends, every one pays different , if they like u or not maybe 180k pp maybe 50k pp ( if u wish to even pay that scammers) !! There are no legal tickets, and they have no legal buissnes there, they’re just 10 ppl gathered together to SCAM tourists, so be aware!!! We already new this information when we headed there and we told them we will not pay. At the entrance point there was a lady screaming and diverting from the pathway saying go there for tickets, and we just passed ignoring her. Than we parked the scooter and there are some local rambos yelling at us and running after us , tickets tickets . We said no, we will not pay this is a FREE open national park and we know and were warned that you are scamming!! They got defensive, angry and started treating us and bullying, we just ignored but they keep continuing to bully us and almost wanted to start a physical fight!! I said that i will call the police, but they just laughed because there are probably no police on the island and they run they’re own illegal ticket mafia nuisance… so sad tbh, ruined our experience! And they have ‘so called guides’ ( so also involved locals) who take u around ( which u can do urself) but they were smart and took all the signs for the waterfall direction off!
I think someone really needs to...
