I think the old head is a beautiful beach one of my favourites along the West coast on the wild Atlantic way. The views are spectacular around the whole area but the jewel in the crown is the georgous Croagh Patrick in the background. It's a really lovely place for a bit if head space and to destress but also a safe place for family walk and picnic, the beach is quite wide in places so enough space for a game of ball and it is ideal for running and training. There is a large public car park close by with lots of spaces and is free of charge, public toilets are there also and whenever I have used yhem have been really clean. It's only a shout drive from Westport so very easy to reach and is within cycling distance if you need the exercise or extra fresh air. There is a little coffee dock there also so refreshments are available from tea and coffee to soft drinks and snacks. If your ever in this part if the country I would highly recommend a visit to yhis beach you won't be disappointed.

A fantastic sheltered beech 20mins from Westport. Easy enough access road with a very ample car park and decent public toilets (at the rear of the car park). There is a coffee shop near by (walking distance). Beech itself is sandy and shielded to the rear. There’s a fine pier and a couple of very pretty smaller beeches adjacent. Ideal spot for paddle boarding or sea kayaking (there is a surf rental shop in the car park) but no waves for surfing on the day I was there. All in all great for kids and good services.

What a lovely beach. July 2018, 28 degrees in the shade. Beautiful. Overlooked by Croagh Patrick, is there a holier beach in Ireland? This place should be at least a class 2 relic and renamed a place of worship. Shallow warm water, I could've swore I was in the Seychelles. Only thing missing was a bar. BYOB. If you're around westport it's the best beach by far.
