Of course there are different difficulty levels; how far in is the tide? Is the sea calm, rough or very rough? And then there is the ultimate test - the jump off the BACK WALL! Even though it might be 60 years ago we remember that day!! But the Pier, apart from its obvious use as a harbour, is also a focal point for fishing, swimming, paddle boarding and suchlike and it has a slipway where you can launch your pleasure-craft if you’re lucky enough to have one. It can be a magical spot too. Last week (in very early July 2021) a school of dolphins were in the bay and the sea was as calm as a pond. A few people who were paddle-boarding a little way off the pier suddenly found they had company: dolphins playing amongst them, clearing the water with their leaps!! Read moreSuch a beautiful spot. Great to sit and watch the world go by, there is the coastal walk beside it and a great spot for swimming. When the conditions are good there is nearly always someone there swimming, the hardy folks in their togs, some in wetsuits (the water is really cold in Ireland apart from the height of summer, and it's still fresh then!.). Parking can be a challenge on a busy day but when it's quiet there is a car park across the road and a decent amount of on street parking, no charge.
