The place is very near the Benbulben mountain which dominates this part of county Sligo. When I arrived at the spot, I was surprised to see a large number of vehicles here. I thought that I would be the only person here since the bridge didn’t seem to be that interesting. The parking is already backed up quite a bit so there was a little walking to get to Luke’s bridge. Luke's bridge is very beautiful small kind of bridge over a small river that is coming from Benbulben or Darty mountains. The view from this point is very beautiful and peaceful. You can see mountains around it and another side Sligo town. Should visit once of you are coming to visit Sligo. The view is mesmerizing. In reality Benbulben mountain is the real thing in this view that makes it very beautiful and don't forget to enjoy the walk from the Luke bridge to next point from where the bridge comes with a two way diversion. The view and walk actually seems very peaceful and natural.

Fun hike with beautiful views. We hiked in late July on a cloudy day. We wore non-waterproof hiking shoes and our feet were muddy and fully soaked throughout the hike. It's kinda fun to squish your way through the bog. The trail was mostly well worn and easy to follow. It would probably be challenging on top during foggy/misty weather with low visibility. When going up the gully, we took the right side (when facing it from the bottom) which seemed like a gentler incline. It took us 4.5 hours to go up and back (we're slow hikers) Hiking poles are useful for the descent, as some areas are slippery. I was afraid to do this hike because it wasn't officially marked and I didn't want to fall off the mountain. But it felt safe (following the trail and going carefully) and I'm really glad I did it. If you're confident in your endurance and footing and you have good weather(visibility), I recommend this hike!

Luke's Bridge is the starting point for the Benbulbin walk, one of the most popular hiking trails in County Sligo, Ireland. The bridge is located at the foot of the mountain and is easily accessible by car or public transport.

The walk itself is challenging but rewarding, offering stunning views of the surrounding landscape, including the Atlantic Ocean and the Sligo countryside. The trail is well-marked and maintained, with plenty of opportunities to stop and rest along the way.

Luke's Bridge is also a popular spot for fishing, with the nearby stream providing ample opportunities for anglers. The area around the bridge is peaceful and scenic, making it a great place to relax and take in the natural beauty of the region.

One potential drawback of Luke's Bridge is that it can get quite crowded during peak hiking season, particularly on weekends. Additionally, some sections of the trail can be steep and rocky, so it may not be suitable for inexperienced hikers or those with mobility issues.

Overall, Luke's Bridge is a great starting point for the Benbulbin walk, offering easy access to the trail and a beautiful natural setting. While it can get crowded at times, the stunning views and peaceful surroundings make it a must-visit destination for anyone exploring...

If possible pick a weekday to go here, and early, as there are limited car spaces. There isn't a signpost to tell you the way to Benbulbin so for those who might like a guide, we crossed the bridge and turned right, followed the road until it forked and took the right fork. At the T, we took the left path which leads to a boggy area. It had been dry during the days before we did the walk but I would imagine it's a nightmare after rain. Hence taking the left fork back aways might be better but someone else might be able to advise on that route. Anyway, whichever route you take, the aim of your climb is the descending stream on the ascent straight ahead. You'll see a path on either side of the stream. We followed the right path because it was the natural route to follow having traversed the bog. Steep enough climb but at the top, follow the path right which will bring you along the ridge to the top of Benbulbin. It's a fantastic walk, it really is, and the views are...
