Ballybunnion Beach is stunning. Towering over it a cliff with a sheer drop and the remains of a castle sitting on its edge, Ballybunnion Castle. It's just 4 walls, but when you walk through it the view on the other side is so beautiful. Looking down across a huge unspoilt stretch of sandy beach. Across from the beach are more cliffs with Caves eroded into the rock face by the sea just waiting to be explored. An enjoyable beach at anytime of the year. The castle is free to look around. Read moreWe visited Ballybunion beach and went to the left side of the castle on a recommendation. Its a lovely beach and of course the weather was fantastic. Very visible presence of lifeguards on duty up and down the shore advising which parts of the water were safe to enter. The water was out a good bit when we arrived and came right in towards the soft sand by mid afternoon so nobody's towels were safe. Lifeguards on duty and dog friendly beach. Even saw a beautiful cat on a tether sitting by its owner's beach chair. Tower was flying 2 Irish Flags and a Canadian flag, being Canadian this was very special. Town has lots of pretty Irish Pubs and amusements for families.
