You should go here! Only 2 of the 4 towers remain, but they tell a tale. Do take the guided tour as it's very interesting and entertaining. We were shown around by Margaret and she had a wealth of facts and fun facts about the castle and it's inhabitants. People back then were equally disgusting as inventive 😂
To visit the castle you have to climb some stairs, but they're easy. There are some small rooms during the tour, but they're part of the castle's story, but beware if you're not into small spaces. Kids will like the exploring bit and the things shown and explained during the tour. The tour takes between 30 to 45 minutes.
It's incredible you van visit this place and take the guided tour for free. There's even a free car park just around the corner by the river and the bridge to...

I think he might've even charmed me a little too...
And if that wasn't enough, he saved the day by jump-starting our car during his lunch break! I think my mum's already planning her next visit, just to see him again. John's dry wit had us all in stitches, and his electrical expertise was the icing on the cake.
Don't think twice about coming off the motorway to see this castle - John's tour is worth the detour from the motorway. Seriously, don't miss it! Just rock up and enjoy the experience. From a Cork mother...
Read moreMy husband and I enjoyed our visit to Lostowel castle. This is a free OPA site to visit. You do access the interior while on a guided tour. Our tour guide was John and he is a very colorful character and provides an interesting tour which includes the historical significance of this location. There is actually a face found on the outside of one of the existing 2 towers. John shared the story but you have to visit to hear it. It involves a monkey so is an interesting bit of history. You should definitely put this site on your list to visit. We spent about 45 minutes there. There are public restrooms at the entrance of the Writers library which is right next door and we were allowed...
