After visiting this place yesterday I was left with a bad impression. I really liked the grounds with the beautiful garden around the estate, but the experience was spoiled by the tour of the house itself.
First of all, very few rooms are accessible for viewing, most of them can be seen from the outside through the windows. I also did not like the guide who gave us a tour of the house. The fact that at the beginning of the tour when everyone was gathering, the guide did not ask what country everyone was from (there were only 7 people), although usually professional guides specify this information at the beginning to understand how to present the tour. The guide spoke very quickly, there was a feeling that she wants to finish quickly and go home, as there was a comment from her that she was there as early as the morning. Our tour was at 3:00 pm, it was the last tour of three.
There were three of us, only one person knew enough English to understand such fluent speech, and when she tried to translate some interesting facts to us, which was done in a whisper in our ear, we received a judgment from the guide and the whole subsequent tour was a sense of ignoring our group and arrogant attitude. In fact, the tour was further presented only to the other four people.
Moreover, we came to this place because we were considering it for a wedding ceremony, but after all, there is no desire to spend our special day there. This spoilt my fiancee's mood for the whole day. Overall, a great place to walk, but I would not advise taking a tour of the house, it is better to save money and buy a cup of coffee in a...
Read moreIf you are looking a great day out with tons of history and staff who really care, don't go to Powerscourt. Come to Killruddery instead. From the moment you are greeted by the super helpful ticket staff you will feel right at home. The house tour is a must and we had a fabulous, enthusiastic and proud guide (named Sarah) who showed us about this historic property as a group as if it were our own house. There was no stiff National Trust atmosphere here. You could sit on the furniture and it felt like someone's home instead of a museum. We went on the day they had their Summer Fling event. The singer's were amazing. The gardens are a must. Peaceful, tranquil and small enough to walk around comfortably. The only thing I regret is not bringing a picnic... which you can enjoy in the Apple Orchard. Will definitely keep an eye out for their many other events like opera's and plays etc. The National Trust could really learn a thing or two from a private venue like this. These people genuinely appreciate your custom and thanked our group for spending money with...
Read moreVisited for the first time last Sunday during a trip to Wicklow. Thought the entrance fee was very good value - we went with the combined House & Gardens ticket and we did the first tour of the house at 12 o clock. We had Barbara as our guide and she was fabulous, so knowledgeable (she’s the head tour guide) she really made the hour fly by with funny and interesting stories, we could have stayed all day chatting to her! Would absolutely recommend everyone do the house tour if they’re coming to the gardens.
We had a bite to eat afterwards in the old Dairy tea rooms, the sandwich was very tasty, as was the cake, and we thought it was good value again.
We loved all the herbaceous borders in the walled garden, and loved seeing all the hens in there too. The kitchen garden is also amazing, with fantastic produce on view for the cafes and restaurant on site. Great credit due to all the gardeners!
Lovely amenities for kids as well, with play areas, sand pits and lots of space to run around.
All in all, a wonderful...
