Such a lovely quiet place for a walk. There are a couple of loops - shorter/ longer to choose from. It was so peaceful to walk with the sound of birds chirping and the different trees to view. Each loop has a different story. You come across the Ballinatray bridge, the canal, the High cross of Kilbride and the river. Please wear comfortable shoes suited to the wetland soil. There are trails created for walking but its not flat ground. It can get very mucky. I like how they had kept seats near the viewing points, which are good for taking amazing pictures. There are no restrooms at the entry of this walk, so be mindful of that. There are a few car spots at the entry to the woods. We started from Courtown woods Car Park 2. Read moreOne entrance to the wood is located on Ballinatray Lower junction with the R742. These woods run adjacent to the River Owenavoragh. The paths are well maintained and there is a small carpark at the entrance.
There are a few Geocach hides located in the woods. It's easy to download the app and the kids love trying to find the cache, remember to take a small exchange.
Worth a visit all year round, the woods never seem too busy. In the summer, there is a great smell of wild garlic, down by the river.
