IRISH National stud farm instantiated in 1900 by Colonel William Hall Walker, who inherited the family money (from brewing beer) and had allegedly 1000+ girlfriends in his lifetime. Walker became the most successful horse breeder of the age, used astrology in his breeding process. WALKER lend King Edward VII his finest horse Minoru, born and raised at Tully. King Edward VII led Minoru into Epsom’s winners’ enclosure following a famous victory in the 1909 Derby. In 1915, Walker gifted the farm and all its stock to the Crown. The farm became The National Stud under the leadership of Sir Henry Greer. In 1943, the newly formed Irish Government took over the land and buildings at an agreed valuation. At present the Stud farm runs on its own money, 80% of which is earned by the 7 stallions(state owned). Most distinguished of all is the Invincible Spirit (foaled 17 February 1997) is an Irish-bred,British-trained racehorse. Read moreWe booked a group tour of the stud and the racehorse experience and also made a lunch reservation. There was 19 in the group including 2 small children. We were greeted on our arrival and met by Sue our guide and also by the restaurant manager. First we went to the racehorse experience which was very interesting and informative. There was a model of the heart of a racehorse and I was amazed at the size of it. Each of us selected a virtual racehorse and then we raced against each , geat fun. My only complaint is that they charge full price for all children over 4 years old, which I am not happy about. I complained about this beforehand but to no avail. Even Dublin Zoo has a reduced rate for...
