I have to revise my review. Ever since the pandemic the service in the restaurant has downgraded. They still have quality products, but the experience of brunching there is not what it used to be. Below is my original review from some years ago:
I have the habit of going to Tishbi Binyiamina twice a week for breakfast and I love it. Granted I always order the same thing: Israeli salad (chopped cucumber, tomato, onion, cilantro, lemon and olive oil) to which I add salt, pepper, tabasco and Tishbi's amazing tahine which they prepare fresh every day. One or two cups of their superior quality coffee "afuch", the equivalent of cappuccino and simple fried eggs with mushrooms. Something that stands out in Tishbi is their bakery. I've talked to the owner and he says they import their flour from Germany. I can't say enough about how good their bread and pastries are. Many locals come by just to purchase bread and challa for shabbat. Ah, yes, Tishbi is kosher. The place itself is great, during the summer a spacious outside sitting area with picnic park type benches and tables under the shade of groomed grapevines and an enclosed heated front porch during the winter. I am not really a "foodie" and always stick to the same things on the menu so I can't really comment on a variety of breakfast dishes or their lunches, but the things I order are excellent. Some of the things I can't comment on but you should know about are their wines, chocolates and barbecue. Tishbi is a winery after all, so if you are into wines, I am sure they have wine tasting tours of the winery. On a building by the restaurant there is a chocolate store. Tishbi distributes Valrona brand chocolates (French I believe) and the store is stocked with many types of chocolates. Lastly, on Fridays, in an outside shaded area of the winery, they mount a barbecue pit (kosher). I have never tried it but it is always packed with people eating...
Read moreLovely food and wine, too bad the service is so awful. First, the good news - the food is fantastic. Grilled eggplants are to die for, khachapuri are very different than the traditional style (here with their traditional baked bread, rather than filo dough) but a universal crowdpleaser. Everything else was excellent - the risotto had an especially strong presentation. All of the breads were of a fresh and spongy consistency and perfectly baked. The wines are not marked up compared to the store, so you can get an excellent bottle of single vineyard Carignan etc. for NIS 140.
Now, the bad news, and reason for a 3-star review for such a great restaurant - we are used to Israeli service sometimes being indifferent or disorganized - we can all live with that. But the service here alternates between being downright hostile to service staff being completely absent. It is the sort of place where you see patrons standing up and shoving money or credit cards in the face of the waitstaff, and desperately trying to get their attention.
If the management / owners ever read these reviews, please look at our review and many others - if you put some of the attention on the service that you have paid to the wine and cuisine, you will have a world-class restaurant. For now, diners should plan on spending a long time there, and taking a lot of initiative in trying to get any form of service (including walking up to waitstaff at the counter and just handing them money / credit cards / asking for...
Read moreHORRIBLE PLACE WITH EXTREMELY POOR SERVICE. We planned to go to wine & chocolate tasting there. Even though I called this place in advance to find out the details, no one mentioned that you have to register. When we got there of course there was no available place and we were told that we have to book in advance :-( We was told us by the winery manager, she started to argue with us and explain to us why we did not understand what we were told over the phone. We went to their next door restaurant. We had to wait an hour just to get a sitting place. There only reason we waited is that we were hungry at this point. We saw many other people complaining that they are waiting for the bill, other people were waiting for their order. We waited a long time for a waiter, and then we were told "You should have the QR code printed on the table...". We told the owner of the restaurant what we experienced and he started to make excuses that he has no employees and that he agreed to receive a group in the restaurant that caused him problems and other excuses. He tried to make us happy, but it was like forcing you to agree with him. The food was reasonable. NEVER AGAIN...
