This place was incredibly disappointing. We came on our honeymoon to the “infamous” Cala Di Volpe only to be treated so poorly from the minute we got there. We were stuck in a tiny dark room that for over $1k a night made no sense considering we felt we were at an abandoned motel and that truly a motel would’ve been nicer. Our sheets were dirty upon arrival and our shower was flooded which meant our entire bathroom was flooded. My wife called very sweetly and nicely asking for help if someone could come change the dirty sheets and fix the shower only to be told “I don’t understand the problem but ok we will figure out something soon”. Hours passed and nothing. After calling 3 more times our first night and 3 times the next morning we were in absolute distress and said we wanted our money back and to leave only to get the same response as well as being told we wouldn’t get our money back. No one came for 24 hours to address our sheets or our bathroom until finally a family member called to which they finally did something about it by moving us to an “upgraded” room 24 hours after issues/arrival for the rest of our stay (3 days).
The staff at the hotel were so rude and disrespectful. There was only 1 kind person working there who worked at the beach.
Unless you are a billionaire with a yacht, you are meaningless to them and they look down on you as if you’re minuscule dirt below them…almost as if you’re a criminal. It’s an eerie feeling everywhere you go almost as if you are not welcome. There is tons of security which you would think would be nice and comforting but again unless you’re a billionaire they question you every single time you walk past them. We got in trouble for walking out of breakfast with our full coffee cups that we wanted to drink on our terrace (post upgrade) and tossed paper cups…again for over $1k a night are you kidding me? We got looked down on and questioned when we asked for a spoon as we had yogurt in our room and needed a utensil. Blonde girl ponytail hostess at the bbq both for the coffee incident and spoon. She is horrific and gets off on authority clearly as a hostess. It was made to be a big deal for 1 tiny spoon.
We were pretty much ignored, laughed at and stared at the entire time we were there. We didn’t feel comfortable going to breakfast in regular clothing because everyone was decked out in labels jewels dresses suits ant 7am… and if you weren’t dressed fancy you were ignored.
Had we known that from the start we wouldn’t have saved for a year just to come here for our honeymoon. Everything was incredibly overpriced x 10000. Room service for 1 burger, 1 dessert and 1 water cost us 97 euro….we didn’t feel comfortable leaving our room due to the rude treatment so we resorted to ordering room service and splitting a burger considering just 1 and water was almost 100 euros. When we ordered that at the bar minus the dessert it cost 78 euro…
All and all the stay was horrible. We felt very depressed and wanted to go home. A honeymoon you’ve been saving for shouldn’t feel that way and whether you are saving for a year or a billionaire you should be treated with kindness and respect. 10/10 do not come here. We will never go back and sadly our honeymoon was ruined.
For “5 star” famous status the staff should be kind and welcoming. They shouldn’t make you feel you are nothing and meaningless especially when you are kind and friendly to them. They shouldn’t take 24 hours to solve changing dirty sheets upon arrival that shouldn’t have been dirty considering it’s a new room and a flooded bathroom which is a slipping hazard and could be sued for.
I’ve never written a review before and was considering not writing one but after how horrific this stay was I would caution others to be warned especially if you are like us aka naive and not billionaires by any means.
Saved an entire year for this. What a sad thought. This was supposed to be a special time. Our first time to Italy something we had dreamed about. We...
Read moreOkay, so where in the English language do I search for words descriptive enough to articulate our MAGICAL stay at one of the finest hotels in the........WORLD!! I do struggle because I am not sure I can describe correctly, how INCREDIBLE our stay was! If you are lucky enough to even be thinking about visiting Sardinia, do yourself a HUGE favor and book the Cala di Volpe immediately!!! From the moment I made my booking, I knew I found a special place. The correspondence and assistance from the concierge team was unmatched!! (Mauro, we miss you so!! The most helpful, kind, interested and genuine concierge rep we ever experienced! Giovanni, Annalisa and Daniele, all outstanding as well!) The property alone is worth the trip! You might never want to leave! The decor is outstanding and immediately gives you the feeling you arrived at a slice of heaven that will envelope your soul!! EVERYTHING is outstanding, from housekeeping to any department you can think of, it is apparently clear, the staff is only concerned with making sure your stay is beyond your expectation. The breakfast was outstanding but what really stood out was all of our conversations with the incredible staff. Antenello, thank you for telling us to explore Alghero and the gorgeous La Pelosa beach (a must!) What a day trip we had after chatting at breakfast and taking all of your advice! Alessio, Misha, Guispee, Roberto, Nicola, ALL of you won our hears! And please, I usually hate to list names for fear of leaving someone out, so please know I do mean EVERYBODY when I express these sentiments!! The front desk became family to us, Ronny, Lilian and Chiara, always met us with smiles that could melt your heart and chats that we looked so forward to!! Another wonderful treat was meeting Luca, the reservations manager!! What a delightful man that we had the sheer great fortune of spending a little time with, getting to know him and having his assistance with a request for a future stay regarding a family celebration! You will feel you are staying with family just from the warmth and dedication of this ENTIRE hotel and its staff!! My husband and I have traveled to 80 countries, stayed at countless high end properties and I can honestly say, the Cala Di Volpe will go down in our travel history and the FINEST of them all! You really have to go there to understand what I'm talking about. If you are in the middle of planning your trip and have any hesitation at all, please trust me when I say, you will NOT be disappointed in your choice! I am aware that there are some questionable reviews posted regarding price or attitude, etc. I will say this.........if you have ANY problems with the Cala Di Volpe, you must take a really long, hard look at yourself. Because if you can find fault with such perfection, the issue is not with the hotel! Yes, it is on the expensive side but just go with the attitude that it is worth every penny for this luxurious experience and I can guarantee that any smile you share will be met with an even bigger one from every single staff member on duty! This is not a hotel stay review........this is a life changing experience review!! After staying at the Cala Di Volpe, nothing we ever do in our future travel life, will compare! I say this from my heart to yours. Treat yourself to an experience of a lifetime and be open to all the magic that will...

Despite all the whining and complaints about price and service, I had a fabulous stay. Obviously there is an air of snobbishness and bourgeoisie deserving of their reputation but I was addressed by name throughout my stay. This was evident from the breakfast staff, concierge for my car (complementary valet which was lighting fast) and the room attendants (excellent general and turn down service)
The check in was cordial and I was upgraded similarly to my stay previously at Hotel Cervo. The guest relations officer was very friendly and brought us through a walk through of the huge property.
The room faced their signature bay and part of the Sea leading out which I found breathtaking from sunrise to sunset. The amenities were top notched and a complementary fruit and nut bowl was awaiting. The contemporary room looks renovated and new and was spotless. The space was perfect and had ample storage for everything. The large balcony was a sanctuary of peace and comfort. The toilets were superb with gold plated taps and granite sinks. The rain shower was huge and powerful and was one my favourite features. The switches of the aircon and room lighting were intelligent and set the day and night scenes. They had a 55 inch smart TV that allows for screen mirroring (something of a must for me). The wifi was average 8.6mbps and was dependable. As a frequent traveller, I know that the room had been upgraded recently as they have both USB and USB C plugs on both sides of the bed. The mattress was marvellous and the pillows really soft and fluffy. Even the coffee machine (complementary) was top of the line.
They have transfers to their private beach every 30mins and I spent most of my days there for the mornings versus their huge sea water pool that had superb views of the waters with very friendly pool staff. The private beach was also manned by staff that provided complementary sparkling water whilst we were basking in the sun. Private beach had toilet and showering facilities which was priceless.
I was given late check out and I am leaving the hotel with rich memories and totally satisfied...
