Impressive medieval castle on a hilltop over a village. It's BIG and just after the holiday season it was almost deserted. We spent an hour or two roaming the ramparts, the many rooms (including a fascinating exhibition of 29th century socialist paintings) - and yes, the torture dungeon as well. We were pleasantly surprised to be left to roam the place on our own accord. The view of the valley from the ramparts is stunning.

A beautifully preserved fortress perched high above the valley. From the Piazza, in front of the church in Bardi, one takes a walk down the quaint main street towards the castle. Once down the magnificent structure towers above. Keeping to the left, climb up, through the gates and onto the courtyard area. It affords wonderful views and also has exhibits of artefacts through the centuries. Well worth a visit.

The Castle of Bardi The Fortress of Bardi Bardi (Emilian: Bàrdi) is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Parma in the Italian region Emilia-Romagna, located about 130 kilometres (81 mi) west of Bologna and about 50 kilometres (31 mi) southwest of Parma, in the upper Ceno valley at the confluence of the rivers Ceno and Noveglia. It is dominated by the imposing Landi Castle built over a spur of red jasper.

Probably the best castle /fortress I've ever seen and visited. Very well presented and organised allowing you to see practicaly everything. The castle is maintained in beautiful condition and is well presented internally and externally. It is not suitable for disabled or less able to visit the castle as it is constructed on many levels and designed to inhibit easy access. Amazing views from ramparts. Highly recommended for a visit and certainly not to miss if your in the area. Dogs are also very welcome and water dishes are distributed in various areas of the castle. The dishes are cleaned frequently and topped up with fresh water. Toilets are available...
