A true delight for all human and supernatural senses. (I am partially talking about the walk and the views to and from the church,... but I am mainly talking about the home-made Apfelstrudel in the place next door). The walk--and the Apfelstrudel--are very doable. We even met some nice people on the way to the 'top'... This place seems to have a good effect on people (and the Apfelstrudel has too).

The view is AMAZING. You can dominate the whole valley by sight. It just takes some 5-10min walking to get there by a parking just down the hill. I would really recommend this nice spot for anybody who comes to Südtirol

St. Hippolyt , Tissens , Südtirol. Wir haben St. Hippolyt über den Wanderweg von Völlan erreicht. Man hat von diesem Plateau eine wunderbare Aussicht über das Etschtal und in das Passeiertal hinein. Der Ort strahlt eine Kraft und Ruhe aus - wohl auch deswegen wurde er bereits seit der Jungsteinzeit als Siedlungsgebiet und als Kultstätte benutzt. Die Kirche wurde wohl ende des 13. Jahrhunderts am Ort eines früheren Kultplatzes errichtet. Erste und urkundliche Erwähnung der Kirche war 1288. Die kleine Wanderung hat sich wirklich gelohnt .... . Neben der Kirche findet man zur Stärkung die Gaststätte Hippolyt - auch ein Ort wo wich ein Besuch lohnt.

Despite insignificant elevation of ca 700 meters St Hyppolites' Kirche is the dominant element of terrain in Meran-Bozen valley (the fact clear even for IV millenia BC Stone Age ppl who chose it for archeologically proven settlement!).

Starting from the South direction clockwise the place provides clear naked eye view of: Sigmundskrone castle, Gantkofel mountain (with its remarkable peak shape), Zwindenburg castle, Leonburg castle, Eschenloher castle, Tirol and Brunnenburg castles, city of Meran, Katzenstein castle, Aschlbach waterfall, Kroell tower, Neuhaus Maultasch castle ruins and the city of Bozen!

Plenty of bazalt rock formation scattered around the church provide enough privacy even to the large number of visitors making it ideal viewing platform in the area.

P.S. And yes, paragliders taking off from the opposite side of the valley are clearly...
