San Nicolò di Capodimonte — Attraction in Camogli

The ancient church, of Romanesque architecture , is located along the path that leads from the parish church of San Roccotowards the coast to the geographical area called Punta Chiappa. The building of the temple dates back to the 12th century by the regular canons of San Rufo , on the site where - according to local tradition - there was already a chapel named after Saint Romulus .

According to some studies carried out in the ancient place of worship, it seems that a small inhabited nucleus was formed here - almost independent from the village of Camogliese - annexed to the adjacent monastery.

Due to the violent raids of the Saracen piratesthe entire complex was abandoned during the fifteenth century, thus becoming the seat of the most diverse civil and religious uses.
