My wife and I booked a 2 night stay through a third-party Agritourism site yesterday morning. On our trip to the accommodation we were delayed a couple of hours due to heavy rain and an major auto accident on the freeway.
During our trip, we emailed the owner to confirm our reservation and explain our late arrival. The owner replied saying that he had an apartment for €60 per night.
We replied back and said we had already booked and paid for this accommodation and would be there soon but there was never a reply back. Also, there was no instructions on how to get to the accommodation. There was no physical address, not even a phone number, nothing.
When we arrived we had to walk through slippery steep cobblestone stairways asking locals if they recognize the photographs of the accommodation. After seeing the photos, they pointed us to Palazzo Forani which was a totally different name then Casperia 1427 that was listed on the Agritourism website.
We knocked on the door and rang the bell but there was no answer. We went back to the car and Googled the name on the building and found a phone number on their website. We called the number and spoke to a lady who wasn't very helpful.
She said we could not stay there tonight. When I tried to explain what happened to us she said it was too much and hang up.
It was 10 pm at night, we were cold, soaked with rain. tired from driving over 11 hours, and had no prospect of a place to spend the night. We had to drive an hour north to a larger town and was lucky enough to find a hotel that was open late and had availability.
In the the past 7 years of full time travelling we have never come across such an uncaring, unprofessional establishment.
To avoid making the same mistake as we did, I recommend when booking through these type of third-party Agritourism sites is to first contact the owner of the property to make sure they confirm availability, provide you with their contact details, including check-in instructions before you...
Read morePalazzo Forani is a magical place; you truly feel that you have stepped back in time. The village is all original, with the cobblestones of yester years and the countryside views that cannot be fully described to give them justice. We had our annual family reunion here (group of 8), and the accommodations were beautiful. We even took a family photo that I describe as our “Dalton Abbey Portrait”. The ladies that cooked us breakfast each morning were friendly and the food prepared was great. There was nothing we asked for that we did not receive! And all of this with the ladies not speaking a word of English. I was able to practice my elementary Italian and we had a fun time hand gesturing. In the village itself there were several small family-owned restaurants and local bars, and again no English, this made it that much more special. One of the local restaurants opened on a day where normally they were closed just to serve our family!!! The home-made pasta dishes and wine were amazing. I am still thinking of them now that I am back home. The property manager was extremely responsive, answering all my questions before we arrived within a few hours of me sending the questions. There is also a local lady who helps during your stay, and she speaks English! Susan was so immensely helpful and friendly. We were also given a tour of the original Forani castle which we found to be so enjoyable. Many of the original furniture, paintings, flooring, tapestry are there. We felt so special being so close to such treasures. The property is about an hour and 30 minutes from Rome. There is a local train station about a 20min drive which you can take into Rome and other areas of Italy which makes this location quite convenient. Overall, I give the Palazzo Forani my highest...
Read moreWhen we booked the Palazzo Forani for our family to stay at during our Casperia wedding we did not imagine how perfect it would be. Carla, Deirdre, Anna, Angela and AnnaMaria made our stay feel as if it was our home and they were a part of our family. The palazzo is stunning and seemed like there was always some fascinating new spot to discover every day. The private gardens were the perfect balance to the ancient narrow lanes of the village and made for a great gathering space of our large group of 25. The views and sunsets from the terraces were spectacular and made you pinch yourself to think a place like this really exists. We enjoyed several banquet dinners for our whole group in the cellar kitchen/ancient olive oil storage room that were always perfect as our hosts always had a solution to whatever detail we overlooked and AnnaMaria’s dinners were sumptuous and always attentive to all the varied dietary needs we had. Casperia is the perfect, quiet getaway village of ancient winding car-free streets and stunning views out over the Sabina Hills with all the services you could need in reach; a bank, grocery, bar, snack stand, pizzeria, restaurant, etc… set amongst rolling landscape of olive trees and ancient hilltowns dotting the landscape. People at home were so amazed at how everything worked so wonderfully and how much work we must have done, I just tell them we put our faith in wonderful people and let them do what they do so well. Could not give any higher praise than the wonderful ladies of Palazzo Forani and the subline beauty...
