I Custodi delle vigne dell'Etna — Attraction in Castiglione di Sicilia

Wonderful Sicilian wine experience at the hills of Etna! We had the pleasure of trying the Contrade wine tasting this summer at I Custodi. It was such an exclusive experience! Alessi, our guide and sommelier, was very kind and knowing, and both the tour and the tasting itself was of a very high quality. The wines of I Custodi (which by the way means The Caretakers, as the winery is preserving the old traditions and even grape sorts) are exquisite! This was without comparison the best wine tasting and by far the best wines we had in Sicily. I will defenitely recommend going there for a tasting (great value for money) or trying I Custodi wines at a restaurant. Amazing place with great history and great wines. The combination of minerality from the volcanic soil and the varied microclimates of different sides/areas of Mt. Etna allows for the creation of highly drinkable complex wines that remind me of Chile, but the warmer latitude can also offer the deep richness often associated with Italian wines.
