This review is for the Naples Port Tour that I booked through Nicola Scovenna company. I had a back to back cruise and stopped at this port 2 times and booked tours through Nicola Scovenna company for both tours. Our English speaking tour guide for this cruise was named Julia and there was a driver who did not speak English. I was traveling with my 4 and 10 year old on both excursions and I requested a car seat for my younger daughter and a booster seat for my 10 year old. The shoulder straps on the car seat for the 4 year old was not adjusted properly. One strap was high and the other was low which made it uncomfortable for my 4 year old. When I requested that the straps be adjusted correctly the driver came over and jammed the lock into the seatbelt and walked away. After riding in this seat for a few hours she never wanted to get into another car seat in Italy. Normally she loves her car seat. After the first ride (3+ hours to get to Sorrento as you will read below) I had them take the seat away since I could tell that she was very uncomfortable.
The first excursion was for Positano, Sorrento and Herculaneum. We were in the car for over 2 hours to get to Positano due to traffic and in the end we told the driver to skip Positano and head to Sorrento since we were sitting in still traffic and not moving and we still had not reached Positano. As a result by the time we arrived in Sorrento we had been in the car 3+ hours due to traffic. The driver should have known and told us about the traffic to Positano, had we known this, the other family traveling with us and I would have decided to skip Positano to have more time in the other stops since we only had about 8 -9 hours in the Naples Port. We then spent 2 hours in Sorrento and 1 hour in Herculaneum. So due to the lack of communication from the driver and tour guide about the traffic and travel time we had to spend 4-5 hours of our time in the Naples port in the car which was very disappointing for us since we would have liked to see more of Italy.
Our second excursion was Ravello, the Amalfi Coast and Naples. This time I requested a different route around the mountains since I did not want to spend 5 hours of my time in a car instead of exploring Italy. During this trip they did not provide a car seat at all for my 4 year old and gave her only a booster seat which did not secure her adequately to the car and her head was swinging around the whole time as we went around the curves of the road while going around the mountain. As a result, she threw up once when going up the mountain and also once while going down the mountain, which as you can imagine was not ideal. Ravello, the Amalfi Coast and Naples were all very nice and we enjoyed our time at...
Read moreI am not usually compelled to write reviews, but after a two week trip to Europe, using tour guides and transportation almost daily, we really felt it necessary to commend Nicola Scovenna. Suzy's communication was comforting and attention to detail was far over and above the rest. Nicola was the only company that called a day before to ask whether we needed anything the following day, such as a car seat for our children. A call!! That was awesome! Thank you for that Suzy!! Given most of the experiences we had prior on our trip, this was more comforting than you could know.
THEN, on the day we were picked up, we had the pleasure of meeting Maria Clara! If you are ever so lucky to see she will be your guide, you are in for a real treat! Clara made us feel, in an instant, that we were being picked up by family. She isn't a driver, or a guide, she was family. This lasted from the minute we met her to the minute we left the van, and still as I write this. Our day was planned in advance, as best we could. When we started driving. Clara dug in immediately asking us questions and our trip morphed into a much more relaxed perfect day. Just what we needed. We hadn't pre-planned a wine tasting, and Clara worked tirelessly while we were exploring to make it happen for us. Thank you Maria Clara, you will be a friend forever. Thank you Suzy and the rest of the staff at Nicola, for making our trip to Tuscany one our family will...
Read moreThis was our second time with Nicola Scovenna and our second time with Maria Clara specifically. We had such a great experience our first time that we were extremely excited for our return trip. We came in by cruise, and asked for a full day with Maria Clara in Florence. When she showed up, very early I may add, to the port, it was like seeing family. Maria Clara knew just where to take us, where to park and made the day amazing once again. We visited Florence on an extremely hot day hitting temperatures around 100 deg. Maria Clara managed to keep the car close for us to cool down, and personally walked us to our tour locations ensuring we would not get lost in the extreme heat. Restaurant recommendations were amazing and the little extra spots she brought us maximized every minute we had .
We use car service quite a bit when we travel to Europe to bring us around each area we visit. It is amazing how many are late (causing unnecessary anxiety), unclear with meeting places, and sometimes a bit cool with their temperament. Experiencing the variety of services out there really makes you appreciate how high a level of service as well as the warmth and hospitality we have experienced with Nicola, and Maria Clara.
We have much more to see in Tuscany, and cant wait to be back to see them again.
If you are lucky enough to have the opportunity to use them, don't pass that...
