Il Ciolo — Attraction in Gagliano del Capo

One of my bucket-list Salento destinations finally ticked!! Located outside the centre of Gagliano del Capo are these absolutely stunning magnificent little inlets coves and grottos. The soothing restorative blue waters of Ciolo awaits sun-baked skins. Ciolo is also rich in marine life. It's a perfect stopover for tourists divers and swimmers visiting Santa Maria di Leuca or the Ionian coastline. We spent an hour or so exploring the town of Gagliano del Capo before stumbling on a beautiful serene sanctuary, off the beaten track, nestled amongst olive and fig trees. From here, you can view the surrounding rugged landscapes, ancient paths and hillside trails perfect for hikers. We found the area around the bridge busy and parking limited. Il fiordo del Ciolo è senz'altro una bellissima meta turistica del Salento, si parcheggia in strada e si giunge alla piccola spiaggia attraverso una scalinata di cemento. Il mare è di un blue intenso, data la profondità delle acque e la presenza di grotte raggiungibili a nuoto. Tuttavia ciò che proprio non accetto è l'abitudine dei ragazzi di tuffarsi dalle varie altezze, anche incuranti della presenza dei bagnanti. È vietato tuffarsi, ma nessun responsabile della sicurezza del Comune di Gagliano del Capo , cui il territorio appartiene fa rispettare l'ordinanza. È un luogo dove si sono verificati molti incidenti, anche gravi, fratture delle vertebre lombari, traumi vertebrali vari che possono essere invalidanti. Tuttavia l'incuranza dell'amministrazione è complice, a mio parere, di ciò che avviene in questo luogo. Ho visto tuffarsi bambini di dieci anni, ragazzi che si sono arrampicati sugli scogli, dal ponte... Se pensate che il fiordo del Ciolo meriti un posto come luogo per eseguire tuffi, fate come ha fatto Polignano a Mare. La cittadina che ormai è una meta ambita nel Turismo pugliese consente i tuffi in sicurezza, sia dei bagnanti, che dei tuffatori. Iscrivetevi alla Red Bull competition, come Polignano, tenete a disposizione un servizio di Ambulanza nei pressi e una stretta vigilanza. Non basta porre un divieto è necessario farlo rispettare. Ahimè il Salento è bello, ma in dietro di 30 anni! Le strade, assenza di parcheggi adeguati, mancanza di norme, è un luogo selvaggio per selvaggi... Wow! What a remarkable place. Super clear water! You can snorkel and see everything from above, I think the bottom was more than 10 m deep. Lots of fish. The beach is all rocky, but you dont need to stay there much. Just go into the water and enjoy. It is amazing to swim below the bridge. We had never seen a beach like this. Parking might be difficult on the main road. Try to go early. If not, there is a parking up inland, and then there is an easy path to go down to the beach. It takes around 10-15 minutes to go down...
