Il lungomare di Catania è una delle gemme della città, un luogo dove il mare e l'Etna si incontrano in un panorama mozzafiato. Camminando lungo la costa, si respira un'atmosfera rilassata e autentica, con il suono delle onde che accompagna ogni passo. Le panchine disseminate lungo il percorso offrono il posto perfetto per fermarsi a contemplare il mare cristallino o per godersi un tramonto indimenticabile. Tuttavia, è innegabile che alcune aree potrebbero beneficiare di maggiore cura e manutenzione. Piccoli interventi, come la sistemazione di alcune pavimentazioni o la pulizia più frequente, renderebbero questo luogo ancor più accogliente. Nonostante ciò, il lungomare resta un angolo di serenità, un luogo imperdibile per chi visita Catania e per chi desidera godersi un momento di tranquillità lontano dal caos cittadino. Con qualche attenzione in più, potrebbe davvero diventare un gioiello inestimabile della città.

Inizialmente era definita Lòngina, che deriverebbe a sua volta dal greco Λογγανα (Longana, nome di un fiume sotterrato dalla colata lavica del 1329 o da quella del 1381 e che sfociava proprio nel porto), il cui termine indicherebbe i porti muniti di pietre forate per l'approdo delle navi. Un'altra ipotesi è il nome Ongia, dea panellenica a cui sarebbe stato dedicato un tempio e un'iscrizione che lo attesterebbe, quest'ultima venne però ritenuta un falso da diversi autori. Resta comunque la presenza di numerosi monumenti di epoca antica testimoniata da vari autori[3] e di un tesoretto di V-IV secolo a.C. presso il Porto di Ulisse. Lungo il suo percorso ci sono vari locali come bar, trattorie e ristoranti di pesce, varie attività commerciali vendita al dettaglio, chiosco, un' area fitness, pista ciclabile.

Vom alten Stadtzentrum bis hier läuft man (langsam) 15-20 min. Der Weg über die Via Umberto dauert länger, ist aber schöner. Man kommt an Bars,Läden und Supermärkten vorbei. Die schwarze Küste ist beeindruckend. Hier gibt es ein schönes öffentliches Bad. Man liegt auf einem hölzernen Sonnendeck. Das Wasser ist sehr tief und extrem klar. Um ins Wasser über die Treppe hinein- und herauszukommen, muss man geschickt sein und Kraft haben. Sonst stößt man sich an den Metallkanten. Hier ist es schön,um kurz ins Meer zu gehen und sich bei einem Kaffee zu erfrischen. Für einen echten Badetage ist der riesige Sandstrand vor Catania mit seinen Badeanstalten viel schöner.
