Unforgettable Experience at Plaza Hotel Catania Highly Recommended!

If you're ever in Catania, Italy, I wholeheartedly recommend the Plaza Hotel Catania. In all my travels, I have never encountered hotel staff who go out of their way like the team at this hotel did for us the South African Bodybuilding Team.

We arrived in Catania on 18 July 2025, ready to represent South Africa in the International World Bodybuilding Championships. From the moment we arrived, the staff at Plaza Hotel made sure we were settled in comfortably. They were attentive, welcoming, and constantly available to assist with anything we needed.

A special mention must go to the rooftop restaurant staff on the 4th floor especially Fransico and Gabriel, two exceptional waiters who consistently went above and beyond. They ensured our meals were tailored precisely to our dietary needs especially our eggs and protein meals, prepared exactly to our specifications. Their attention to detail, professionalism, and kindness were truly unmatched.

Thanks in part to the comfort and service we received, South Africa proudly secured 10 Gold Medals at the United World Sport & Fitness Festival. I firmly believe the hotel and its incredible staff played a vital role in our success.

Not what you would expect from a 4* hotel. My pregnant wife (6th month) and I stayed in the hotel for 2 days. At check-in, they assigned us a room which smelled a lot because of someone smoking in the room before us. Since we anyway didn't like the room so much, we've asked if it was possible to upgrade to a better room. Unfortuneately the hotel was full. At night, it was impossible to sleep until 2am because there was a party at the rooftop of the hotel. When facing the staff with the situation everyone told us that they could understand us but no one felt responsible for the situation (they said, they're not responsible for the parties at the hotel rooftop). After the end of the party at about 2am, later in the night at 5am, the staff began to prepare the breakfast, and of course, again you could hear everything from the restaurant above the room. The next day, the reception was really sorry and in accordance with the director we could change room (upgrade) and the first night would be refunded. The first thing happened, for the refund instead, they found excuses and in the end didn't answer anymore at all. The second night was only a little better, at 11pm music began again and in the room there was again some noize. We left this hotel with a bad feeling. Overall we stayed in 9 different hotels in Sicily and this one was one of the worst. The staff makes promises that they can't keep and...

WARNING: THIS HOTEL IS HORRIBLE!!!

If you are staying on the 3rd floor, do not expect to go to sleep before midnight. They have a disco going on tonight (roof top bar is on the 4th floor and above a lot of the ocean view rooms). . Plus you can hear loud music, talking and chairs being dragged across the floor on the roof top bar. **It is not a ‘little loud’, it is ‘extremely loud’.

You can hear all the traffic on the main highway outside the hotel. It is very noisy even at 11pm at night and beyond. Again, very loud (not just a little).

The AC is not on yet and our room is very hot. If you want to cool the room the hotel staff tell us to open the window. If we open the window, the outside traffic noise is even worse. *Just stayed at a much cheaper hotel in another part of Sicily and AC worked great!!!

I called the front desk 3x and not once was I offered to change rooms. Each time I was told I can talk with the GM (and the GM is not in until the morning—lost night sleep).

The best thing this hotel has to offer is the view, but one can see the ocean many different ways in life. The view is not worth missing a good night sleep. Rooftop bar is nice, but pricey (as expected).

It is not worth the money and I have found the service to be terrible.

WI-FI free but very slow. Goes off and on a lot....
