We were scammed today visiting Vendicari. A man with a car was waiting by the road close to the park, and while we passed him we heard a loud noise. We didn’t think more about it but the man started waving and gesticulating so we stopped the car a bit down the road. The man claimed we had hit his wing mirror, which sounded completely insane since we had had a lot of space on the road. But then he showed us a long black mark on our rental car and in the moment of shock he made us believe that we had actually hit him. He asked for 150 euros and not to call the police, but thank God we only had 45 euros left in our wallets. He took the money quite happily and drove off yelling something we couldn’t understand. Afterwards it dawned on us that it was black crayon on the car and all a big scam. Be aware visiting Vendicari! A quick googling later we found that others had experienced the exact same thing here. Watch out and threaten to call the police immediately if you are stopped. And happy...

The place is beautiful, but a few odd things leave you with the bitter taste of being scammed. First, you will have to pay 5€/car for the parking, which is rather dirty piece of land guarded by a random guy with a dog who is apparently the land owner (and of course, you have no choice but to park there and pay). Finally, a guy in a car outside the parking waits for tourist and tries to scam them on a regular basis: he waits for you to get out of the parking, makes you think you damaged his car, then asks you money to settle this. Obviously you did nothing wrong and this guy is just trying to rip you off. This scam has been reported since 2019 (cf Trip advisor): write down the car plate number and call Noto carabinieri...
WARNING!!! BURGLARS IN THE AREA!!! DON’T LEAVE VALUABLES IN YOUR CAR!

I understand this is a known thing and police are aware as people have filed police reports before, but they can’t or don’t want to do anything. Perhaps the park security is also involved as they claim they see...
