Born in 1968 as a temporary exhibition, the museum is the result of experience gained after years of research promoted and conducted by Enzo Carretti who, together with a group of enthusiasts, has collected and preserved a large amount of material, oral and documentary testimonies of the local peasant world. It became a municipal property and remained on the upper floor of the Rocca Estense until 1983, when it was necessary to close it for the beginning of the restoration of the building.
It was reopened on May 21, 1994, after a complete reorganization, assuming the name of Museum of Agriculture and the Rural World, with design and installation by Mario Turci (anthropologist-museologist).
From the moment of its inauguration until today, a continuous work of updating and implementation of the exhibited collection has been carried out, bringing the five initial sections to the current twelve. In October 2008 the last section containing the ancient ceramics of the Rocca was opened, found during the restoration of the building.
