Villa La Magia — Attraction in Quarrata

I discovered this beautiful property in 1998 through the University of Louisville where one of the visiting professors from Italy was acquainted with the Countessa who owned the property through the death of her husband, The Count Amatti Cellessi. She was living in Florida and seldom visited the property due to age and infirmities. At the time she had it listed for sale and I went to Florida to visit with she and her sister to discuss purchasing the property. We arrived at a price and she agreed to have her Notaria draft the documents for the closing which was held in Florence. The property was closed with cash upon delivery of a deed. Several months later and many plans to turn the facility into a bed and breakfast for 50 vested owners whose funds were escrowed, I was notified by the state that because LaMagia was an antiquity of Italy that the government would have a lien on the property for five (5) years to decide if they wanted to purchase it. This blew the deal in as much as it precluded me from subdividing. So, I walked away, but I am pleased to see that the current owners have done a wonderful job and I am just so pleased that it will be around for at least another 750 years as a beacon of hope for restoration of antiquities developed by the Medici's and other wealthy interest. For me it was also a great experience meeting the Countessa and many of the locals at Quarrata who are really some of the most wonderful folks who shared with me and it was there that I wrote a novel about a local resident who met and fell in love with a soldier in 1940 and the day she is going to share that she is pregnant, he informs that he has orders to ship out but would return for her and the child. Fantastica notizia! Dopo un intervento durato quasi due anni che ha coinvolto nella sua totalità il monumentale patrimonio architettonico, sono stati inaugurati i giardini della Villa Medicea La Magia. Il restauro è stato reso possibile grazie a un intervento di 2 milioni e 382mila euro, finanziato con i fondi PNRR e altri contributi delle istituzioni locali. Il progetto ha abbracciato tutta la Villa, incluso il giardino romantico e quello à parterres, il viale di accesso e la relativa illuminazione, le sculture e le componenti lapidee del giardino, le fontane e la vasca del lago. I curatori hanno dedicato una speciale attenzione al verde storico, mettendo a dimora con nuove piantumazioni alcune specie tipiche delle ville medicee della Toscana, scomparse dal giardino della Villa da parecchio tempo, tra cui agrumi, alberi da frutto, bulbose e rose. Sono stati eseguiti alcuni interventi specifici sugli impianti di irrigazione e di illuminazione a led e sulle alberature monumentali; altre opere complementari sono state la sistemazione stradale e l’illuminazione di alcuni percorsi del parco. Ho visitato questa villa lo stesso giorno che ho visto quella di Poggio a Caiano e probabilmente il mio giudizio è molto influenzato dal paragone fra le due ville..... La villa la Magia è aperta solo alla domenica pomeriggio su prenotazione... è visibile il giardino e una decina di stanze sulle novanta che ci sono. Ci sono molti lavori perché stanno sistemando il giardino e dovranno fare anche lavori in villa per cui resterà chiusa per un po'. Alcune stanze sono affrescate ed è rimasto qualche arredo al piano terra dove viveva l'ultima contessa prima di donare il complesso al comune alla sua morte all'inizio degli anni 2000. La guida brava ...l'unica nota stonata è il prezzo....secondo me otto euro per vedere quelle poche stanze è un po' alto considerando anche che la splendida villa di Poggio a Caiano si visita gratuitamente....
