We absolutely loved our stay at Fattoria San Donato. It was a highlight of our whole trip. We had a spacious apartment that was very comfortable, and we loved the amazing food, the wonderful hosts, the beautiful grounds (rustic buildings surrounded by grape vines and olive trees), the pool, the farm animals, and the proximity to San Gimignano. While staying here, we took part in a cooking class that was the #1 highlight of our trip. We made 3 different kinds of pasta (ravioli, tagglietelle, and pici), learned how to make tiramisu, with our teacher sharing history and stories throughout. We sampled wine and snacks as we cooked, and then sat down to enjoy an absolute feast including the pasta and tiramisu we made. My husband received specially prepared gluten free versions of everything. And we really loved the experience of dining around a big table with our very international group of cooking students. We also had dinner here on our first night, which was a whole multi-course feast including Bisteca Fiorentina (all served family style for the guests). My family is still talking about the zucchini pasta that was part of that meal. It was the best pasta dish we had our whole trip – seemingly just pasta, zucchini, and cheese combined into magic. (The cooking class and dinner should be reserved in advance.) The fattoria also provided wonderful breakfasts. Their wine was...
Read moreMy family and I had the most wonderful stay here. I can't say enough about the welcome and the food. The pool was a massive hit with the kids too!
The location of this beautiful Agro Tourismo is perfectly situated on a hill top 10 minutes drive from San Gimignano. Surrounded by forest and vinyards, this stunning accommodation is far enough from the road that you feel isolated yet close enough to local amenities that you can join the tourist trail at will.
Known locally for its beautiful wines, Fattoria San Donato has a busy wine tasting trade, coach parties arrive at regular intervals through the day. However we found the influx of tourists to be handled well and not invasive to the residents.
Breakfast is a real treat. A good range of the basics plus cakes and local biscuits and pastries to tempt us. Eggs were cooked and coffees made to order by the friendly team. Dinner was the highlight. If the evening meal was offered I'd definitely recommend it. We were all Vegetarian in our party and the hosts were happy to attend to our dietary request. Wine flows freely as does the conversation in the friendly environment of the dining room. Just be careful when the grappa comes out.
I'd 100 percent recommend this place to stay. Contact them direct and ask about the range of accomodation on offer. If your not staying be sure to drop by to try their beautiful wines and...
Read moreWe loved our food and wine experience at Fattoria San Donato. We had the Bistecca Fiorentina lunch and wine tasting, and it was fantastic. After meeting the owner, who told us about his family’s property and wines and showed us around the cellar, we were taken to a cozy room to have lunch. Large plates of cheeses, meats, antipasti and bread were waiting for us, and four or five different wine bottles were placed on the table for us to try. We told which wines paired best with each course we would be receiving, and were left to our own devices about how much/which wine we tasted. It felt a lot more relaxed than many of the other, more rigid wine tastings we’ve been to in Tuscany. And the food just kept coming - two different pastas (pici and gnudi, which were both deliciously homemade and excellent) and then the star of the show the Bistecca Fiorentina, which was perfectly cooked. We were also able to taste the family’s olive oil and balsamic (the latter of which tasted delicious with the steak, but we were told that is a divisive concept within the family!). We ended the meal with some sweet wine and biscotti, and two types of grappa. So: go hungry!!! We hiked to and from San Gimignano which we can highly recommend, both from a building up an appetite and a digestion and sobering up point of view. This experience was very good value for money and made for a...
