We highly recommend Tommasi Family Experience Tour which includes guided tour of the cellar and 5 wines testing. We have something to compare with - we have visited several wineries in Italy, France, the USA and Canada, and our experience in Tommasi is certainly one of the best. We are very pleased with our guide Caterina, her high customer relation skills, excellent knowledge of wine production and excellent English. We learned a lot of interesting things about history of Tommasi Estate, the grape varieties and their characteristics, the details of the process of creating wine - especially the "appassimento" process, and of course we were very impressed by the new winery with its huge barrels – real piece of art. The wine tasting was also well organized and the wines we tried were excellent and complemented perfectly by the selection of cheeses and cold cuts on offer. What was especially interesting, was that we were given the opportunity to taste not only wines produced in the Veneto region, but also wines from Tommasi-owned wineries from other regions of Italy - it was truly a tour of the most famous wine regions of...
Read moreWe booked a tour via our hotel which was called 'Meet & greet'. The hotel told us it was the only one available. Costs 25€, which already seemed expensive, but we went with it. We arrived at the place and were told we can go down to the cellars by ourselves then come up and try three wines. Well the nice cellar aside, it was randomn. We got no explanation, no tour. It was like they didn't really care. We came up and went to a table they set ready with three glasses. The young lady came up and gave us a choice of the wines which all were fine up to really good (personal choice). We did get a sealed mini piece of grissini sticks. Ridicioulous concerning the priece and the amount of wine we got to try. One would expect more. We also didn't meet anyone nor were we greeted very welcoming imo. The thing is; on their homepage they have tours for far less and with far more in them. I feel unfairly treated by either the hotel or the winery. I didn't get what I paid for. And the hotel belongs to the winery aswell.
All in all I sadly can't recommend the place itself nor the tours, but the...
Read moreWe have travelled extensively and been on wine tours and tastings in Australia, Bordeaux. Burgundy, Champagne, NAPA Valley, Sonoma, Willamette Valley, Washington State, Okanagan Valley, Tuscany and Piemonte and we were totally captivated with the Tomassi tour and tasting. The 5 adults in our group were extremely impressed with our guide Pietro and his knowledge of the Tomassi family and the production and vinification of the Tomassi wines. The “Dal Laguna all’Amarone” tasting and tour for 40 euros is absolutely worth it as you get 4 wines to taste after the tour and a huge board of local Cheeses and Salumi (it is like having a lunch!). Afterwards, we even tried their De Bvris 2010 Amarone for 20 euros and just shared it between us….it was incredible! We also had an opportunity to meet and talk to the Head Enologist for all of the Tommasi Estates in Italy (where else can you do that!). If you are looking for a fantastic tour and tasting in Valpolicella you should seriously book Tommasi in advance. Grazie Mille Tommasi!...
