TENUTA VALDIPIATTA — Attraction in Unione dei Comuni Valdichiana Senese

What a fantastic vineyard and wonderful people who make some truly delicious wines.

We originally encountered the wines of Tenuta Valdipiatta in 2012 when staying in Montepulciano and made an impromptu visit to the vineyard which was kindly accommodated by the owners Giulio and his daughter Miriam, with a tasting in his kitchen which was a delight.

This time we planned ahead and booked on the Flavours of Tuscany tour. We were greeted by Giuliano, Miriam’s husband, who was incredibly welcoming and friendly, engaging us and our children to make them at ease.

We were shown one of the vineyards nearby and talked through the growing process, when the grapes ripen and how the different vineyards they have offer different properties to the grapes; then we were taken to the cellar to be shown where the wines are matured after being harvested and processed.

Then we were taken to enjoy the wine tasting, along with some local meats and cheese which were also delicious. The wines, needless to say, were all fantastic in their own ways, and we were informed about the different certification rules that apply to the different appellations.

A Truly Memorable Wine Tasting in Tuscany with Svetlana

We had the absolute pleasure of attending a wine tasting at a beautiful winery in Tuscany, hosted by the incredible Svetlana—and it was truly one of the highlights of our trip.

From the moment we arrived, Svetlana welcomed us with warmth and genuine hospitality. Her deep knowledge of Tuscan wines, paired with her effortless charm, made the entire experience both educational and thoroughly enjoyable.

Each wine she presented told a story—not just of the grape or the vintage, but of the land and the people behind it. The wines were thoughtfully curated, showcasing the richness and variety of the region. Svetlana’s passion brought each glass to life, and she made sure everyone felt included, whether you were a seasoned wine lover or just beginning to explore.

The setting was stunning, the wines exceptional, and the atmosphere intimate and relaxed. We walked away with a deeper appreciation for Tuscan winemaking, a few bottles to bring home, and memories we’ll treasure.

I booked the Valdipiatta Experience tour and tasting in June 2024, and it was truly extraordinary. Giuliano was our host, and his warmth, expertise, and storytelling elevated the entire experience. He guided us through the wine cellar showing us various oak casks and vintage wines from the 1970s that brought the history of Tenuta Valdipiatta to life.

The wine tasting was incredible, we sampled 9 wines to experience the full range of the estate’s offerings. From the town’s iconic Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, the refreshing Tosca Rosé to the elegant Pinot Nero, and finishing with the sweet, golden Vin Santo and a smooth Grappa.

Everything was beautifully paired with aged Pecorino di Pienza cheese and Tenuta Valdipiatta’s own extra virgin olive oil on Tuscan bread, simple, local, and delicious.

We also got to explore the beautiful vineyard and take pictures on our own. It was truly a journey into the heart of Tuscan tradition, guided by people who clearly love what they do. A must for any wine lover...
