Ya Mon-this was a cool experience. The falls are beautiful and it was nice to have a tour guide show us exactly where it was safe to climb so we could enjoy the fun spots without worrying about safety. I also love that they had a guy do photography and you have the option to buy a package at the end of professional photos. I paid $40 and did this since we were a family of five. It's very difficult to do the climbs and slides and keep your camera safe so I appreciated this option personally. Both our tour guide and Photographer did a good job. It was a little bit busy the day we went and our tour guy disappeared because he had to add four people to the tour so we had a 15 minute wait on the front end but once we got that situated, it moved along very nicely. he was a very patient and worked with everyone at their own pace. He would help you climb or give a hand as needed. Jamaica definitely operates on island time! The schedule was pretty loose, but it all worked out OK. I thought the overall waterfall climb was just the right amount of time. We were there around an hour just enough to experience some climbing and slides, and then our excursion moved onto the blue hole and reggae Hill. Being part of a cruise ship excursion, we were more limited on time. The only negative about this tour is upon exiting. There are craft and gift shops and they're very aggressive and pushy trying to sell you things. They don't put a price on anything as well. It's a significant enough issue that our Tour bus operator warned us ahead of time not to even engage or speak to them unless we knew there was something we wanted to purchase. I ignored them but my husband said hi and the guy said thanks for saying hello...I guess people are leery of how pushy the vendors can be but they were glad my husband said hi. Dunn River Falls is a very cool way to experience nature not far from the Ocho Rios cruise Port. We really enjoyed seeing this area. I think relatively healthy and fit people of all ages could comfortably do this activity. I have a mild neuropathy and my son and husband help me navigate some of the steps, but I'm in my early 50s with a tiny bit of mobility problems and was able to do this and had a great time. The rocks were not as slick as I expected, and the guides let you know the best places to step and navigate the waterfalls. Regarding shoes, please note that the water is rushing over the rocks so I would recommend water shoes, Teva's, or keen style sandals. Crocs will likely slip off and float away. they sell shoes there for about $10. They also have lockers for rent, but I was able to leave my belongings on the tour bus since I was part of a group tour. I've also read there's access to a beach, but this is not something that was part of the excursion I booked so I did not experience the beach.

We took an excursion from our resort to visit Dunn’s River Falls, and the journey there was smooth and enjoyable. We sailed on a catamaran, which was a fun and relaxing way to get to the falls. Upon arrival, everything seemed well-organized. They split us into smaller groups, each with a guide, which made it feel more personalized. However, I’ll admit I hadn’t done enough research beforehand, so I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect. Our guide instructed us to hold hands in a human chain and led us to the bottom of the falls. As we started walking toward the water, I noticed another group climbing up the falls, holding hands and navigating through the rushing water and slippery rocks. At that point, I decided to opt out of the climb. It looked far more challenging than I had anticipated, and I wasn’t comfortable with the idea of climbing up the waterfall in those conditions. I was also surprised by the difficulty level of the hike, which, in my opinion, is VERY difficult. No one had mentioned this beforehand, and they only had us sign a waiver form, without giving a clear explanation of what we would be doing. I’m 54 with weak knees, and this activity was not suitable for me. If you’re not confident in your physical abilities or have concerns about balance and mobility, I’d highly recommend reconsidering this excursion. For me, it’s a “no-go” for those with similar limitations. Ultimately, I believe activities should be fun and safe, without unnecessary risks. Instead of attempting the challenging climb, I opted to take the steps up to the waterfall. Along the way, there are exits where you can enter the falls and enjoy the water at different points. Unfortunately, no one informed us about these options, which would have been helpful to know in advance.

It’s world famous for a reason… BEAUTIFUL falls with the added bonus of being climbable! We opted to go without a guide (I recommend going without one if you’re reasonably fit, just avoid stepping on black or brown moss as it’s VERY slippery) and climbed them twice. It’s not “cheap” to get in for tourists at $25USD, but compared to other famous places that’s on the lower end. Tips: - Bring your own food, and rent a locker. We brought lunch and a locker means you can climb the falls unencumbered. A small locker (like a 1/4 size gym locker, good for a couple medium backpacks) was $8USD. You get a $3USD deposit back when you return the locker key. - Wear water shoes, they REALLY help with traction! - Bring a waterproof bag for your phone, it’s really easy to drop it while climbing. - If you’re unsure of what route to take, watch a tour climb and just follow their path. - If you’re trying to choose a day to go, look at the cruise ship schedule for Ocho Rios. Avoiding days when cruises are booked makes a huge difference! We went on a “quieter” day and it was awesome. - Don’t worry about going “later” in the day. We arrived around 11:30am and it was a good amount of time to do everything. - There’s a nice little “Tranquility Garden” that’s good for a quick stroll. Not a must-see but a nice quiet area. There’s also a beach at the base of the falls. It’s quite nice and reasonably sandy. - As with any tourist attraction there’s souvenir vendors there. They’ll approach you, but if you politely decline they’ll back off. They may SEEM forward, but they do take no for an answer. This goes for all over Jamaica as well. - Lastly… don’t rush! Try to enjoy the climb and the fresh water rushing over you. Look at the scenery. Enjoy your time there!

Super pretty water feature with a lot of pushy vendors. We took our time getting off the ship and took a cab to the falls. If it took 5 minutes to drive here from the port, I would be surprised. The ride is super expensive for the time even if you are paying for Round trip fare. Regardless, we got in to the park and the driver walked us over to a guide, the guide walked us to a gate and we paid for the bracelets to enter. Once we were in the park, we walked through a couple vendors and got to a spot where we were told that we could walk ahead or wait for a group. We walked and eventually met up with a guide who took us in the water to take pics. We tipped him and he left. Then, we pretty much had the falls to ourselves but could hear the masses coming from the tour groups coming up the stream. We started in the middle or pretty much at the base of the falls. The groups walked through water and then the tour director had them all fall backwards into one of the wading pools as they worked their way up. I was fine missing that. The rocks are slippery in spots but are pretty reasonable to climb. Once you get up one big chunk of rocks, there is another wading area/photo opportunity and then you climb, again. This second part was pretty easy and there is a waist deep water area to walk through. Once at the top, they usher you out. A few things: *There are other areas in the park to visit that are pretty to see. *Water shoes outside the gate are $12 and inside the gate are $10. *The water is slightly cool but easy to get used to. *There are lockers available onsite.
