Chokujozan Raikouji Temple — Attraction in Anamizu

I had such a great experience visiting this 1200 yr old temple. Very sacred, calm and mindfulness sot of place. Temple used to be a kind of gathering space for old Japanese time. A lady that was managing the temple was very kind and really welcomed us, even guiding around specific parts of the temple and beautiful garden. You must check their two ghost scrolls - they are nothing evil and are properly serviced by the temple's monk in the past. The temple is full of history and you will really appreciate it in every part. I'd say they are lot more worth visiting than those museums with superficial displays. 穴水にある真宗のお寺。以仁王を守護してその忠義、振る舞いに平家方をも感服させた武士で、穴水に配流された長谷部信連ゆかりのお寺とも。ここの県指定名勝のお庭はまた実に美しい。現在の形となったのは江戸後期とのことだが、百余年の星霜に苔むしては十分に神さびており、庭自体に既に意思がある。なので濡縁に端座してはこの庭と目をあわせ、その光そそぐ百年の春の美しさをともに喜ぶのである。 面白いのは客殿から一段上の観音堂へと回廊を設けて、この庭を上からも俯瞰的に見られるようにしつらえてあることである。確かに客殿からでは見えない中島の向こうの有様などが見え、実に興。ただ、回廊の傾斜はえぐいものがあり、気を抜くと本当に下まで滑り落ちる。

しかし、このお寺、何もお庭だけではなく、ご本尊さまにも確かな禅定の境地と古韻があり、それを囲む古拙な天女の彫刻に認められる歓喜喜悦と共にこちらにも十分伝わる。一方で本殿玄関破風まわりにみられる彫刻もひと目で分かるほど巧緻で質があり、躍動感には感嘆とさせられ、何となくロマネスク彫刻の味わいもして実に魅力的。前庭もきちんと美しく整備してあり、その心地良さ、美質は地域のみなさんをも惹き付けて、訪れは引きも切らず、どうも地域活動の中心となっているよう。お話しができなかったのは残念だが、こういう活気あるお寺を見れたのは嬉しく、汐汐とした幸せを感じて帰...
