Jigoku-numa Pond — Attraction in Aomori

A small sulfur pond on the side of the road. I've been here every season and it is quite pretty. The road is wider here and there is plenty of space to park. In the fall it is usually very busy on the weekend, but that's also when it is at its prettiest. There is a small path that you can walk on next to the pond and up to a small shrine on the hill next to it. Jigokunuma looks like a hot spring pond to me but it is exactly a crater lake. There was a signboard displaying “地獄沼” which means 'Hell Lake '. After travelling through the Hakkoda snow corridor towards the direction of Sukayu Onsen, we stopped by the roadside beside Jigokunuma and posed for pictures at the 'Hell Lake'. A cute little pond you can visit by pulling your car to the side of the road. A natural hot spring feeds into the pond so the water and the little river leading up into it are lukewarm. We went to see the pond just as it was snowing a little and the mist coming off the water was ethereal.
