Ayabe city Observatory — Attraction in Ayabe

This Astronomical Observatory of Ayabe Pao is located in the north from the central part of the city. This facility boasts its reflecting telescope with a clear aperture of 95 cm in diameter. This facility was built in here in 1995 for the purpose of education. It is open from 9:00 to 16:30 from Tuesday to Thursday and 9:00 to 21:30 from Friday to Sinday. Closed on Mondays and day after national holidays. Once a year they open this facility until midnight for special observation day. There are many objects for scientific study on display as well as items presented by locals for visitors to enjoy. Friendly staffs are always happy to guides you through the facility and show you to the top floor where the telescope is set. Please notice that there is a meteorite of iron placed right in the center of its first floor which you are allowed to touch and lift. The entrance fee is 200 yen per adult.

毎週末の金土日曜日は天候が良ければ、夜間天体観望会が開催され、皆既日食等の珍しい天文現象がある場合は特別に天体観望会があります。学識者による説明もあるので、初めての参加の方でも大丈夫です。日中でも天候が良ければ、反射望遠鏡で月や星等を見ることができます。綾部市天文台ホームページで、毎月のイベント情報を見れば内容とスケジュールがよくわかります。また工作体験教室もありますので、夏休みは子供連れの方の利用が多くあります。人気(ひとけ)がなく、夜は心細く感じるかもしれませんが大丈夫です。ここは穴場なのです。

中央公民館、文化会館よりも更に高台に位置しており、車で坂道を登っていくと、建物全体が見える駐車場にたどり着く。清潔なトイレあり。

飲食機能は無いが、入り口で200円以下のチケットを買えば再入場、出入り自由。入り口が鉄の扉のため少し戸惑うが、ちゃんと貼り紙があるので大丈夫。

一階手前には例えるなら夏休みの自由研究・自由工作の博覧会で、大人も思わず手にとって楽しんでしまう素敵な空間。一階奥には宇宙をテーマにした電子遊具や健康遊具が並び、信じられないくらいのコスパ。隕石の断面や、南極の岩など展示もあり。

三階には95mmカセグレン式の反射望遠鏡と他、望遠鏡併設。とにかくスタッフの方の柔軟な優しい対応のなかで、日中も夜も興奮できる。夜は7:00-9:30あたりで日曜日だったが観望会をやっていた。
