Ayabe Gunze Square — Attraction in Ayabe

Gunze Square is located in the central part of Ayabe City. It was established in this location in 2014 to comemorate its foundation dates back in 1896. Gunze is a major long-established textile manufacturer in Japan mainly producing underwear of greatest quality. The facility is combined with Rose Garden to accommodate visitors. There is Gunze Memorial Hall which is the former head office of Gunze. Some of the storage for the factories are restored and preserved as histric monuments of its origin. Inside the storage is a museum where you can some sample products of Gunze on display with explanation on how the industry started out as a silk making industry by founder Tsurukichi hatano. There is a nice tea house " Doko-an " where you can have a casual break with a cup of coffee for just 100 yen. The space is magically relaxing with tea room with Bonsai Garden. The Rose Garden right in the center of the property. the flower season is from May to June. There is a souvenir shop right across the tea house selling local products including some products of Gunze. Most of Gunze products are distributed to many shopping centers nation-wide. This facility is open from 9:00 to 17:00 except for Tuesdays. There is no entrance fee. To reach this location you can take JR Line to Ayabe Station. It is just about 10 minutes walk to north-east.

JR綾部駅横の観光案内所にもお土産あるが少なく？であったが、このスクエアに特産品館があり納得。駅から子供と共に徒歩で15分程歩いてスクエアへ到着。 ちょっとした散歩道。 宗右衛門というコーヒーハウス、ばら園、グンゼの博物館(資料館？)があり、バラ園では小さい子達が追い駆けっこ中。 特産館は、食べ物から陶器､お酒と、この地域の特産品がならぶ。 中には抹茶カフェもあり(大人向けかなぁ。メニュー的に) たまたま、この日がライトアップの点灯日とあって、市長や議員さん、ライトアップの関係者に演奏イベントのバンドまで来ていて、夕暮れ時の１７時過ぎライトアップ✨✨ こじんまりした処ですが、キレイにセットされていて満足。 ラッキーでした。 駐車場もあるし、スクエア前にはバスの停留所があって、帰りは駅までバス利用(信号次第では5...

綾部インターチェンジから10分もしないところにある。バラ園、物産館、グンゼ博物館がある。

バラ園はそれほど大きくないが、様々な種類のバラを見ることができる。この種類が無料で見れるのは貴重だと思う。

物産館は地元の野菜、特産物が販売されており、かなり賑わっている。軽食になる物も販売されているので、少し立ち寄るにはいいと思う。

グンゼ博物館では、絹産業の機器が置いてあったり、カイコの種類・飼育、企業の歴史が展示されています。入場料を少し取ってもいいくらいに、しっかりと展示されている。 グンゼの歴史がわかるので、社会科見学としても面白い。

駐車場はそれほど広くないが、利用者が多いときは、臨時駐車場もあるので、基本的には駐車できるだろう。
