We started our hike at Beppu Ropeway car park. The entrances are on the left of the shop right in front of the car park. It took us close to 2.5hrs to reach the top of Mt Tsurumi. The entire hike is up up n up. You can see the pictures I attached herewith. 😝
At the beginning the trails are pretty clear until close to 1hr later there is a short distance (~50) without pink or blue ribbons tied to the branches. Just walk upward a little and U will be able to see the next ribbon. Otherwise the entire track is pretty clear - just follow the trails. Somewhere midpoint there were two high trails where u will need to make use of the chains provided to pull yourself up.
Just be careful of some bees flying around, and hanging worms along all the trails as well. I have cleared most of them along my trail today. The tourist information center at Beppu Center told us to be careful as it’s vipers season now! We were lucky - didn’t see any 😝
Overall the trail is very enjoyable ! Just becareful of each steps as it’s pretty challenging if this is...
Read moreSo, from the main road all you can see is a Tori gate and a road. Some people parked there, but we risked it. We drove up the road behind the tori, it was NARROW and in need of repair. But we made it to the trailhead parking. Then it’s a 2 min walk more to the path that leads to a small shrine. Then at the shrine is the official trailhead. Place to write you were there. Then it’s not super clearly marked. Look for the pink plastic tags on the trees to the left of the sign in box. There’s 2 blue benches about 8mins up. But that’s the last benches. It’s a big steep on places, and very woody. Poles are recommended or gloves for coming down. You have a split choice a ways up. If you go towards the ropeway you can stop at the bathroom and get drinks etc. another 5 mins gets you to the top of the mountain. Nice view of Mt. Aso from there.
I’m total, I’m pretty slow. Took me 1.5 to go up. About 40 mins down.
