If you originally found out about this place through its jinmenseki (rocks with human faces) collection, also be aware that it boasts a wonderful collection of rare fossils, minerals, ruiseki (Rock landscapes), and even a Japanese film camera collection! Seriously! Call them! Meet them! Have the most wholesome experience of your life talking to two people that love what they do.

This place is just UNCANNY and FANTASTIC! We were amazed by the amount of rocks with faces we have discovered in this unbelievable place. Definitely worth the trip! <3 And the two adorable people who host this place are the sweetest we met in Japan. Simply GREAT ! 🫶 🪨

初代館長さんが秩父地域で50年近く掛けて集めたという、様々な石を拝見出来るスポット。その館長亡き後、現在は娘さんと旦那さんのお二人で、こちらを守っておられるようです。多くは手のひらサイズの人面石が展示されているのですが、その内容の珍しさからかメディアの取材や外国からも多くの人が来られているようです。規模は小さいのですが、その人面石がガラスケース一面に沢山並んでいます。50年もの歳月を考えると、展示しきれてない石も数多くあるのでしょう。それらは見ていて吹いてしまうような物から、へぇ～と感心してしまうような物まで。 私が訪れた際は旦那さんがお相手をして下さったのですが、とてもお話が上手で素敵な方でした。初代館長が人面石を集めるきっかけとなったエピソードや、展示してある石の台座のお話など、とにかく面白い。そりゃ他方から取材受けるわな…と深く納得。そのお人柄も含めここは素晴らしいスポット、そして入場料を支払うと手書きの領収書をくれるのも、粋な演出…！？

This place is so cute. The little stone faces are adorable and the owners are amazing. They are very sweet and are happy to answer any questions. They were also very kind to my little boy and gave him some candy. If you're in the chichibu area this is definitely somewhere you...
