A nice little park. The woods are deep and beautiful and the lava cave is a nice little trip. It's great because it's only 290 yen per person in the cave and DO take advantage of the free helmet rental for the cave. I would have some bruises on my head if I hadn't used the helmet. Also, though it's a Lava Cave, it's still very cold. There's a cool part if the cave filled with ice and that was my favorite part.

The cave is interesting to see and only cost 290¥ per adult to enter, but it is very small and takes 15 minutes for the whole thing. There is a small parking lot and souvenir shop and small cafe. They were selling corn flavored soft serve ice cream, tasty! I would not recommend to make this a destination spot to come visit, but if it's on your route or not out of your way then it's worth it for...
Read moreGreat tourist attraction. Go for a hike in the woods and see the cave later. The cave was made by solidified lava 1000 years ago. Parking is free, next to the building but it can fill up quickly. There are toilets and a souvenir shop. Inside the cave, the temperature is about 3C. It's 200 meters long and it takes 15 minutes to explore. Inside, naturally formed ice pillars can be observed. The caves does not produce echo as the basaltic rocks absorb the sound. The low temperature in the cave was used for storage of silk...
