Fukui Prefectural Museum of Cultural History — Attraction in Fukui

Beautiful and well put together museum about the history of Fukui prefecture.

The museum is split in twos, in laymen's terms it's basically prewar and postwar. Both areas are really interesting and exhibit many different items in all kinds of shapes and forms. But both areas are also very different from one another.

While the prewar area is a traditional kind of museum set up (with all due respect), the postwar area is set up to immitate a bit of a typical street back in the day, just like it would've been back then. Complete with sound effects. Even as a foreigner, you will undoubtedly recognise things from there.

The admission fee at the time of writing is ¥100, which I think is well and truly worth the visit. Parking is free, the place is entirely wheelchair accessible, and there's a cafe attached.

One note of caution for those who cannot read Japanese: almost all titles and descriptions of the exhibits are in Japanese only (with furigana). It might be helpful to use Google Translate in photo mode, but I feel the museum could also work towards bilingual description plates, so that people from all over can understand what...
