Literally horrible to walk in the zoo, if you have just a little bit of empathy toward animals you'll see that they're such in poor condition, they're way too much for the size of the enclosure, birds such as peacocks are 3 in a tiny cage with 1 small bucket of water whereas it was around 40°C outside. Flamingos were so pale you could barely see any pink in their feathers. There also were parrots that were chained to a tree and that everyone could go next to and touch. Horses had no water nor hay. One goat had a really bad wound but it didn't seem to be cured. And basically except for one enclosure, every other one was not adapted for the animals. This was a terrible experience and I hope that they will try to improve the living conditions of...
Read moreWe stopped by on our bike ride around the park. I’m a bit concerned about most zoos in Japan, I’ve seen some very distressed animals in very old style cages, so I usually avoid them. These ones however seemed to be fairly happy, there were lots of babies, in the monkeys and the capybaras so they must be in a good health. The monkeys particularly seemed very active and happy, swinging from their enrichment ropes. The Capybaras seemed to be missing their pond, which didn’t have any water in it, but otherwise good. The flamingos were cool to see, very pink. The owl wasn’t happy about being chained to a small pumpkin in the open, I would’ve preferred him to be in a...
Read moreIt is a sprawling big park! Visited on a day when it was gloomy and drizzling but that only enhanced the walk. Very cooling and lovely to walk in. You can dedicate more than half a day here in this park if you need to, due to the park’s size and all the facilities in here.
You can access it via Kashii line, interchange at Kashii station from JR Kagoshima Line from Hakata. If you can meet the ferry timings, you may want to consider taking the cheaper ferry option @ Hakata port to go to Saitozaki and walk back instead. The animal farm is more easily accessed via Saitozaki station (by both the JR line...
